Arrival & Dismissal Process:
First let me express my sincerest appreciation to everyone demonstrating patience and flexibility as we delve into the new school year while navigating our tight parking lot. Allow me to take a moment and address the arrival and dismissal process for our new families, which is always a good reminder for returning families too.
Allowing access to the curb for bus drop-off in the morning while family drivers use the center lane. As a school, we can control the buses, so staff will be present to make sure your child gets to the curb safely, but it is important to use caution when entering and departing our parking lot. You never know when a child might dart out into traffic. If dropping off please make sure you pull forward as far as possible to allow the string of cars behind to navigate around the center island, leaving plenty of room for buses to also make that tricky curve.
For dismissal, it can get a little more complicated. Thank you to all families that have opted to use the car pick-up option, as this has alleviated the “jockeying for parking spaces” frenzy that has debilitated our parking lot in the past. Peruse the tips for best performance.
· For those families still wanting to park and collect their child(ren) please meet them on the east end of the building outside of the Library. However, be sure to park in an appropriate parking spot and not along the curb.
· For those families that will be using the car pick-up system, please do not arrive at school until 3:15 PM, so that we give the buses time to depart.
· After bus departure, cars should use the curbside lane to line up towards the east end of the building (between 3:15-3:30 PM).
· Drivers must remain in their car.
· Drivers must display a school provided sign (safety measure) in their windshield on the passenger-side.
· As cars pull forward Montclair staff will call your child(ren) from the staging area to your car.
Finally, as always allow for bus clearance when entering or exiting the parking lot.
If you’ve driven into and out of the parking lot while our four large buses are doing the same you know the constrictive space in which all vehicles need to share. Please leave plenty of room when entering the parking lot so that the buses can make it around the sharp corner and exit the parking lot, making room for everyone else. Thanks for working with us!
Read To Me 500:
Research shows that our emerging readers needs as much exposure to rich text, and that having adults read to them actually supports their development. Typically, students coming into kindergarten have a range of 1,200 to 5,500 words in their vocabulary depending on how much they’ve been read to, so it is important to continue this practice even after they start kindergarten. In order to support our youngest readers, Montclair started a Read To Me 500 Books program last school year, and we’re excited about this year’s progress. Montclair Elementary has partnered with Courtyard Retirement Residence in order to have an ongoing volunteer network for this valuable program, and Cheryl Livneh has returned to be our Read To Me Coordinator. This is a wonderful way for our community members to give back to their community, and for us to accomplish our read to me goal of 500 books per student. Thank you, Courtyard!
Have an enjoyable week!
