Miss Culver's First Grade News
May 13, 2016
Math: This week began our fractions unit. We worked on identifying if shapes were split into equal or unequal parts. Then we moved on to describing fractions as "2 out of 4 parts", etc. We are now creating our own fractions!
Reader's Workshop: This week we dipped into fairy tale books to review point of view. We read fairy tales from different characters' perspectives. We also celebrated the end of the year by having a read-in with our buddies!
Writer's Workshop: This week we discussed how one idea can be written using all forms of writing. For example you could write a how-to book on pizza, a story about going to a pizza place or give an opinion about the best kind of pizza.
Science: We have completed all of our social studies and science topics so we are learning about outer space! The students are really enjoying it. So far we have discussed the order of the planets in our solar system, the sun and the moon. Next week we will dig dipper into the differences between planets.
VISITING OUR BUDDIES AT THE WAX MUSEUM
Mrs. Zornes' class had their annual Wax Museum on Tuesday.
Students were so excited to see their buddies dressed up like famous Missourians!
Our museum visit was packed full of interesting facts about these great leaders.
