A message from Ms. Lilly
RNE Newsletter August 31, 2017
The Principal's Office
Dear RNE Families,
It has been a very busy week at RNE! Our students have settled into a routine and are off to a great start! Last week we received information regarding our staffing allotment following the ten day count. We spent the week adjusting teacher and student placement and sharing this information with the families impacted. Below you will find the changes:
- Ms. Lieblich -Kindergarten teacher to Early Intervention Teacher
- Mrs. Stargel- Kindergarten Para with Ms. LIeblich to Kindergarten para with Mrs. Consoer
- Ms. Cutroneo- Special Needs Pre K Para to IRR para professional
- Ms. Emilie Hall- Kindergarten Para with Mrs. Consoer to Kindergarten Para at Crabapple Crossing
- Marilyn Smith- IRR Para Professional to Para Professional at Alpharetta Elementary
This week some of our students began taking the new universal screener FastBridge. This has replaced the STAR test that we have used in years past. Universal screening is used to check student performance and is done periodically throughout the school year to inform instruction. Information about how these results will be shared with parents will be coming soon.
Please be reminded if you are making a transportation change you will need to send a note in with your child. The note should include your child's first/last name, date and duration of change, normal way home, teacher's name, and your signature. If the teacher does not have a note, we will not be able to make a change. As you know, student safety is extremely important, and a note from you helps us ensure we return students safely to you each afternoon. Calling the front office regarding a change should only occur in an emergency situation.
Football and beautiful weather are both on the horizon this weekend! Please take time to enjoy the long weekend with your families.
Best,
Maureen
RNE Fundraiser
Our annual PTA fundraiser is under way! This year, we are partnering with Great American Opportunities to sell their fantastic line of products. Information packets were sent home with your student(s) on Friday, August 11th.
Please visit our online store at https://www.gaschoolstore.com/ (our school’s code is 4994257).
We understand that not everyone is interested in buying/selling products. As an alternative to our Great American Fundraiser, we ENCOURAGE the opportunity to make a one-time, flat "opt-out" donation to the PTA. 100% of these donations will go directly to the PTA and will be used to help fund the Schoolwide Enrichment Model. They are also 100% tax deductible.
If you would like to make an opt-out donation, you have the following options:
1. CHECK - Fill out the bottom portion of the Opt-Out form and return it to school with your check made payable to RNE PTA. Please send the form/check in to your child's teacher
2. ONLINE - Visit rnepta.com and click the "Opt Out Here" button to donate via PayPal.
3. My School Anywhere (MSA) App: Contribute through the MSA store
Your child will receive a prize for donations of $35 or more per child.
The fundraiser ends on September 8, 2017.
We thank you in advance for your support and look forward to another amazing year at RNE!
Fitness Gram
As part of your child’s P.E. program and their comprehensive health and physical education plan, their level of fitness will be tested using FITNESSGRAM, the state mandated fitness assessment program. FITNESSGRAM is a five part comprehensive fitness assessment designed to measure cardiovascular fitness, muscular strength and endurance, flexibility and body composition. Administration of this fitness assessment will be for all students in grades 4th and 5th.
As part of this process your child’s height and weight in grades 1-5 will be confidentially measured and recorded to determine your students Body Mass Index. In grades 4th and 5th parents will receive a copy of their child’s FITNESSGRAM score report indicating their students Body Composition, Aerobic Capacity, Abdominal Strength, Upper Body Strength and Flexibility at the end of the school year. Data collection from FITNESSGRAM assessments will be used to create informed policies, programs, and curriculum and instruction decisions for K-12 physical education at the school, district and state levels. Individual student information will not be used as a part of this process.
As the parent of a minor child, Georgia law gives you the option of NOT having your child’s height and weight measured at school. If you DO NOT want your child’s height and weight to be measured please contact Caroline Maynor no later than September 18th at maynor@fultonschools.org and title the subject as “opt out”. Please make sure you include your child’s first and last name along with teacher’s name.

Statistics show that over 3 million American kids will be bullied this year, making it the most common form of violence experienced by young people in the nation.
Be THE Voice ® is a grassroots program created by Debbie Cwalina and Michael Schoppenhorst in an effort to defuse bullying. BTV focuses solely on empowering the student bystander to find his/her “Voice” when witnessing a bullying situation. At the heart of the Be THE Voice ® campaign is the belief that the student bystander is the true agent of change when it comes to bullying!

Tutors and Mentors needed !!!
There are students at RNE that need your help. You can make a difference by helping students in reading and math. For more information please email Joy Fofana at fofana@fultonschools.org. All volunteers need to be screened through the Fulton County website before volunteering at the school. Go to community then partners and volunteers to register.
Career Day Sign UP
We will have a career day for all 3rd-5th grade students on Friday October 20th from 8-10am. In order to make this event a success I need volunteers to come speak about their job and what steps they took to get there. You will present for 15 minutes per class and rotate throughout the grade level. You do not need to have a student in 3rd -5th to volunteer. If you are interested in presenting please contact Joy Fofana at fofana@fultonschools.org or you can sign up on the counseling websitewww.rnecounselors.weebly.com.
PTA Reflections
The Reflections Arts Recognition Program is a national arts recognition and achievement program for students. It provides an excellent opportunity for students to unleash their creative talents and be inspired, express themselves imaginatively in their artwork, experience the joy and fun of making art, tap into critical thinking skills to create art inspired by the annual theme and receive positive recognition for their original works of art.
“WITHIN REACH" is this years’ PTA Reflections theme. Encourage your students’ creativity to shine!
Students may submit an entry in any of these fields:
• Dance Choreography
• Film Production
• Literature
• Music Composition
• Photography
• Visual arts
For more information on the Reflections Program or to obtain a student entry form, please visit: https://www.rnepta.com/reflections.
All entries with proper documentation must be submitted to the front office by Friday, October 6th, 2017. Selected entries will then be properly prepared to send to the Georgia PTA.
Any questions? Send an email to Melissa Wilkerson at wilkerson.melissar@gmail.com.
