Claires Court Bulletin

Dear Parents,

We are pleased to have sent out this week invitations for all Year 12 parents to come along on 14 June to hear more about going to university, or the very real alternatives available these days. As this is on the second day after the students return from study leave, please give it some thought and let us know if you can attend. Students are welcome and they will be getting all this information, and more, in our sessions at school, and in the final 'enrichment week' we will be helping them to register with UCAS. Last year many parents came at 6 pm to hear about alternatives and stayed on to hear about university as well.

Even though our students are working very hard at the moment for exams which start on Monday, they have not lost sight of the wider world and we are delighted to find that two students have started personal initiatives to raise funds to help others. Not only that but their friends have joined in enthusiastically and raised serious funds for excellent causes as you will read below, Well done.

After a member of his family was affected by cancer, Nadeem Saleem of Year 13 decided to do something to help other patients with cancer by raising funds for Cancer UK. He gave a moving talk in assembly to the Sixth Form which prompted many students and staff to support him as he shaved his hair on Thursday afternoon, the result of which you can see below! Nadeem has raised about £800 so far.

Lauren Walters was enthused by a campaign at her local church called 'Keep a girl in school - every penny counts!' Just £3 will keep a Kenyan girl in school for a year, Lauren set out to collect our 'extra pennies' in glass jars to see how many girls we could support. Students and staff happily deposited their loose change into her pots and so far she has about £25. She will be pleased to receive any loose change, including any foreign coins, sent in by parents next week to the Sixth Form office. We will let you know the final total next week.

Please note that there have been minor changes to the times that AS and A2 examinations begin at Senior Boys Sports hall. Morning exams will begin at 9.00 am and students should arrive by 8.30 am to be registered and seated. Afternoon exams will begin at 1.45 pm, with an arrival time of 1.15 pm please. The minibus from the College Ave site will still run at 1.00 pm to take students down. Students who travel to school by coach should not panic if their bus is late arriving as they will still be given the full allotted time allowed.

We have received a letter inviting our students to apply for this week-long project in international co-operation which will take place this year in Germany from 9-16 July 2016. We have had students accepted in past years who have thoroughly enjoyed the programme of cultural and outdoor activities with students from France, Germany and Italy. Students should see Mrs Rogers to make an application if they are interested

The Sixth Form Summer Ball this year will be on Thursday 30 June, from 7:30 to 11:30pm at Lillibrooke Manor, Ockwells Road, Cox Green, Maidenhead SL6 3LP.

This year the event will also include a two-course meal. Exact timings and menu details have not yet been finalised but it promises to be a very exciting evening.

There are still a number of students who have not paid their subscriptions and, to help fund the meal, we are asking for an additional £5. If any students are unsure if they have paid or want clarification on how much they owe, please speak to Mr Crawley. Please make any cheques payable to ‘Claires Court Sixth Form Social Club’.
