Dear Families

Pupil Free Day--Parent Teacher Interviews

Monday 21st November is a Pupil Free Day, this day is set aside for parent/teacher interviews. If you missed booking an interview please contact the class teacher directly.

School Fees 2023

In 2023, there will be no increase to the fees at St Emilie's. Catholic Education in WA provides an important choice in schooling for more WA families than ever, and St Emilie's remains committed to providing the high quality, Christ-centred and child-focused education that our families have come to expect.

Drive Through

Please ensure that you are following the correct procedures for drive-through in the morning and the afternoon. It is important for the safety of all that families use the crosswalk and do not cut through the drive through area.

Farewell Morning Tea

After the whole school 9am Thanksgiving Mass on Friday 9th December, there will be a community morning tea to farewell staff leaving St Emilie's at the end of 2022. We ask that each family that would like to attend to please bring a plate to share.

Sacramental Dates for 2023

The Parish Sacramental Team met with Fr Jean-Noel on Tuesday and have confirmed the Sacramental Dates for 2023. Please see below for these dates and put them in your calendar for next year if your child is receiving a Sacrament in 2023.

Vinnies Christmas Appeal 2022

Please read the letter below that invites you to make a small donation towards our annual support of St Vincent de Paul, who do such wonderful work in the community. Next week each class will be collecting items that will go towards creating 35 large Christmas hampers for local families doing it very tough at the moment.

We will also be setting up our Christmas Tree in the Office with our Wish Upon a Star tags in mid-November. This allows any family who would like to buy a small gift for children of these needy families, to do so. Many thanks for your generous support - it is very much appreciated by the families themselves and by all the volunteers who deliver them.

2023 Booklists

Booklists for 2023 went home two weeks ago with all students from Kindy to Year 5. Please make sure that you read the note below regarding next year's booklists, there were also digital copies of the booklists in the Week 5 Weekly Reminders. In order to avoid disappointment, it is important that you read the note carefully and highlight the due dates. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact the School Office.

Year 1 in 2023 Uniform

We encourage our PP families to begin the process of organising school uniforms for 2023. The contact details and opening times for Image Embroidery are at the bottom of the Weekly Reminders.

Parenting Article

This week under the Parent Reading heading, we have included an Insights article titled, 'The art of good conversation with young people.' by Lucy Snowball. Good conversation with young people comes down to time – creating the time and space and then using that time wisely. The art of good conversation teaches us all to build great communication skills, skills that improve our quality of life enabling us to express ourselves clearly and confidently through every aspect of our life.

P & F Volunteers

The P&F received an overwhelming response from families expressing their interest to help with school events. It certainly highlights the incredible community spirit we are blessed to have here at St. Emilie’s. A very heartfelt thank you. With any event, there are limited spaces for helpers. Please know though, that we appreciate your willingness and interest to help, the gift of your time, your support and contributions. We now have a handy volunteer roll and will call upon persons when and where there is a need. We appreciate your understanding.

Volunteers are a valued part of the heart of our school community. Thank you once again for your expressions of interest.

P & F Fundraising

What are we fundraising for?

Term 4 - Weeks 6-10 = Patience

Week 7: Go with the Flow

Week 8: Slow down - no need to rush

Week 9- Persist with Things That Are Difficult

Week 10: Stay calm under pressure

Big picture

Sometimes we lack the patience needed to let things run their course. And by taking action at the wrong times, or in the wrong ways, we create problems that wouldn’t have otherwise happened.

Or as Lao Tzu said, “Rushing into action, you fail. Trying to grasp things, you lose them. Forcing a project to completion, you ruin what was almost ripe.”

And when we try too hard to force a particular outcome, anything or anyone that keeps us from making it happen, can seem like an enemy. Even loved ones.

There are times when certain circumstances, or people, keep us from doing things that need to be done. But often that’s not what gets in our way. It’s our own desire to control an outcome that either can’t or doesn’t need to be controlled.

The idea of allowing things to work themselves out, or waiting for solutions to present themselves, seems unrealistic and passive. But this “go with the flow” philosophy is not about accepting everything as it is and never trying to change things.

It’s not about inaction. It’s about recognising when it’s time to take action, and when it’s time to let things be. It’s about controlling the things that can and need to be controlled, and learning to accept the things that can’t.

COVID

COVID-19 SYMPTOMS POST INITIAL POSITIVE RESULT

When an individual receives a COVID-19 positive result, the individual is deemed by WA Health unlikely to suffer from re-infection for a period of 4 weeks. Therefore, further Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) testing when subsequently unwell is not required during this time, as a COVID-19 positive result may be returned throughout this period while the initial virus is being shed.

However, where a person is unwell within their 4-week period and are showing symptoms of COVID-19, WA Health reiterate that the impacted person should remain home until symptoms subside, particularly where symptoms are respiratory in nature (e.g. productive cough).

All unwell COVID-19 symptomatic students should remain home and refrain from coming to school.
