A Note from the Principal - Is it really November next week?

Thank you for joining our teachers for conferences over the past two weeks. If you were unable to attend, please reach out to your child’s teacher and they will work with you to schedule a time to meet with you.

Next week’s schedule is a little different. Please see above for the changes in the week’s normal schedule.

What happens if my child needs to quarantine for an extended period of time? We understand that this may occur at some point this school year. Your child will still have access to the activities posted on Seesaw on their typical at home learning day. We understand that some of the activities may be difficult to complete (please know it is OK to skip activities that they don’t understand) there will be lots of activities that they will be able to continue to do independently. On their typical in-person day your child’s teacher will have a schedule of activities for them to do to keep up with their math, reading and writing school work. While it may not look exactly like what they are doing in the classroom, we are very lucky to have online resources that have activities that are linked to state standards AND our curriculum. Please understand that teachers cannot completely recreate what is happening in the classroom but will ensure that the activities that will be provided on their typical in person days will help your child keep up with school work. When they are able to return to school, the teacher will work with them on their in-person days to “catch up” as needed. Thank you for your understanding as we work together during this unpredictable time!

Safety & Security

As numbers begin to rise in our community, please remind your child about proper mask wearing, social distancing, and hand washing/sanitizing. We continue to do this at school and could use your support at home as well. If you notice your child’s mask is not fitting properly, maybe try something else. If you are in need of a proper fitting mask for your child we do have some options here at school we can try. Just reach out to your child’s teacher and we can help.

VLA Book Checkout

We are thrilled that so many of our VLA students are requesting books via Destiny Discover. However, we are pulling and checking out a number of books that are not being picked up on our curbside checkout dates. Reminder that if your child requests a book, it will be outside on a cart with your name on it between 10am-2pm on the designated dates. Our next date is November 13. This video can help your child determine whether or not their book is ready for pickup. Also, please return any previously checked out books. You can leave them on the curbside cart on designated Fridays, or they can be dropped off anytime on the black cart in the front vestibule labeled “Return VCES Library Books Here.” All VLA Book Checkout Procedures, and future book checkout dates can be found on our Media Center website, linked here. Please contact Ms. Lanners, Media Specialist, if you have any questions! slanners@sowashco.org

Snacks - All grades at Valley Crossing offer a minimum of one snack break a day. You are encouraged to send your child(ren) to school with a snack that is nutritious, individually wrapped, and peanut-free. Our brains work better when well-nourished. We also welcome snack donations for students that are not able to bring a snack on a daily basis. If you are able to donate, we welcome individually wrapped peanut-free snacks. You can drop donations off in the main office.
