Current Units of Study
SOL Review
Tis the season for SOL Review, which could mean a combination of remediation and extension in certain subjects for your child. We will be reviewing content from the entire third grade year daily from now until the end of the year.
Homework
Students will have a nightly math problems, Monday-Thursday, each week that spiral reviews content we have learned and practices content we are currently trying to master.
Homework is an incentive based program, meaning students can earn dojo points and rewards for completing it in a consistent manner.
Expectations
Please have your student wear sneakers on PE days and Open Gym (Every Thursday!)
Practice at home!
Reading and phonic practice is done interactively through Lexia, students are expected to complete at least six units and reach their assigned goal time.
All of these websites are available through the John Kerr Elementary School Homepage.
PBIS
This year JKES is following the Character Counts! values as part of our PBIS program. The following pillars will be taught through guidance classes, and the expectations will be held schoolwide.
Trustworthiness
Respect
Responsibility
Caring
Citizenship
Fairness
You will see these traits on the class dojo app, and students will work daily to apply these character traits to their behavior as part of our life skills curriculum. Using these key words at home will help emphasize their meaning in everyday life, and provide consistency for your student.
PBIS celebrations will be held school wide as students exhibit these traits. Two students per quarter will be recognized for showing outstanding representation of these traits, and we will have community building competitions between classes to provide incentive for students to self-monitor their behavior and apply these traits.
Holiday's & Celebrations
Occasionally we will have holiday celebrations, specifically before major holiday breaks. These celebrations may include food requests, and participation will be based on our dojo points system.
Birthdays are such a special day for students and we invite you to come join them for lunch on their special day, or a day near their birthday. You may bring a treat for the class, but our teacher assistants will hand them out as they are aware of allergies and dietary restrictions among our students. Please email in advance if you plan on dropping a treat off during the school day, or sending it with your student in the morning. Teachers are not present in the cafeteria during lunch, and we will need to pass the information along to the appropriate personnel.
You are more than welcome to join your student for lunch at 12:05pm any school day and sit with our class, outside on our patio or at a side table. If you are bringing your child lunch, please let them know so they make an appropriate lunch choice in the morning.
