Peek at the Week: Oct 31 - Nov 4
News, Celebrations, Information, Action Items and Resources
Greetings High School Team!!
a word from admin...
October is over, November is here!
Admin is working slowly but surely on official observations. Remember to sign up for those if you haven't already. Please complete pre- and post- observation forms as well.
November's observations are Self-Observations. The Marzano focus is "Similarities & Differences". Be sure to highlight this in your lessons this month, and complete your self-observation by Nov 30.
Professional Tasks to focus on:
●Make sure your students are viewing their grad plan.
●Make sure you check for turned in work in your ICAP class and grade the turned in assignments.
●Some teachers may get a new ICAP class next semester. We had so many new students, Katie cannot handle them all (be prepared) If your student numbers are low, you will most likely get an ICAP class.
●Remember to update your instructional map, growth plans.
Top 5 Priorities for Teachers:
1. course setup/maintenance (measured by asynchronous review) 2. prepping and teaching for live classes(students interacting and showing evidence of learning)
3. grading within 72 hours
4. contacting failing students
5. reviewing data - making sure we know what kids know and teaching the content they need (measured by instructional map & DDI survey)
Benefits Enrollment opens Nov 1-14
See more info under Announcements section and in the Benefits email sent Oct 18

ACTION ITEM: Project Elevate
Media is a great way to highlight all the wonderful events, clubs, and remarkable students at your school. Now that the academic year is in full swing, please consider submitting a story to Project Elevate. Media likes to cover all types of stories, including students who are:
- Overcoming various challenges to succeed online (ex: medical odds, bullying, etc.)
- Star athletes aiming for Olympic glory – or other sport success – that appreciate the flexibility of the online schedule
- Achieving their dreams (fill in the blanks of what that might be)
- Standout Stride Career Prep models
- Musicians, performers, actors, volunteers, and entrepreneurs
- Spanish- or other language-speakers who are thriving in their online environment
- Those who came to your school because of COVID-related reasons and chose to stay
These are just a few of the many different unique students we love to highlight at Stride.
As we look toward Bullying Prevention Month in October, we are especially interested in students who have overcome and/or stood up against bullying. We’ve included special Bullying Prevention Month graphics that you can include in your newsletter and share with your teams.

NEW: Benefits Open Enrollment
EVERYONE IS REQUIRED TO MAKE ELECTIONS EVEN IF YOU HAVE NO CHANGES!!!
The annual open enrollment period for Stride employee benefits is coming soon!
Begins: Tuesday, November 1, 2022 at 8:00 AM Eastern Time
Ends: Monday, November 14, 2022 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time
Open enrollment is your opportunity to make changes to your benefits for 2023, and we have some important information about this enrollment season for the coming year. Be sure to read this entire email and review the attachments to learn about all the changes for 2023.
NOTE: Changes made during open enrollment go into effect January 1, 2023.
New this year: We will have an active enrollment for benefits this year. This means that you are required to make elections in order to have benefits for 2023. If you make no elections during open enrollment, your benefits will be waived for 2023. (This does not apply to the Stride-paid benefits available to full-time employees only, which includes basic life insurance for $50,000, basic accidental death and dismemberment insurance for $50,000, and short-term and long-term disability insurance. These benefits will continue for full-time employees regardless of your elections.)
This process is different than in previous years, when all benefit elections rolled forward to the following year if you didn’t make new elections during open enrollment. You must log into UltiPro and actively elect all benefits during open enrollment if you want any benefits for 2023.
Make sure you’re able to access UltiPro before open enrollment starts. Click on this link to log into your Microsoft account using your @K12.com email credentials. Once you’re logged in, you can access UltiPro at this link.
Below are some important dates you need to be aware of:
- Open Enrollment Starts: Tuesday, November 1, 2022
- Open Enrollment Ends: Monday, November 14, 2022
- Changes Effective: Sunday, January 1, 2023
- First Deductions for 2023: Friday, January 13, 2023
NEW: Steps for students to change the time-zones on their computer
When students get their new computer, it will ask them using the setup video what time and time zone they are in. This should automatically set up the correct time for the student. If at any time the computer is not set correctly, they can quickly adjust this setting by following the below instructions:
- Right click on the time located on the task bar.
- Click on Adjust Date/Time near the top of the list.
- Make sure "Set Time Automatically" is turned on.
- Make sure "Set Time Zone automatically is turned off.
- Scroll down to the Time Zone dropdown selection and select your proper time zone.
- Once it is set, Click on the "Sync Now" button located above the Tome Zone dropdown.

NEW: Covid reporting
COVID Reporting for Staff
As a staff member at OVCA, if you come in close contact with COVID-19 or test positive, please take a few minutes to complete the survey located here. This will take just a few minutes and will remain confidential. This is retroactive to Monday, August 1st. If you have questions, please contact Celeste Claggett at cclaggett@k12.com.
COVID Reporting for Students
If a student enrolled at OVCA comes in to close contact with COVID-19 or tests positive, we are asking the student’s CFA to complete the survey located here. This tracking begins today. CFAs will also add the COVID label to the student’s card in Trello to make staff aware of the student’s illness. Once the student has recovered, this label should be removed. ANY staff member who is made aware of a child’s close contact or positive COVID test can gather the necessary information (see below screen shot from survey) and share that will the CFA. Note questions 5 & 6 are for student(s) who test positive only. If you have questions, please contact Celeste Claggett at cclaggett@k12.com.
NEW: Thriving Thursdays
Click the picture to view the time and locations for Thriving Thursday (CFAs at libraries across the state to help with struggling families) next week.
Staff can attend if they would like, but live CC’s still need to be held. Mileage is not reimbursed, so just if staff want to attend one local to their area. There will be new sites each week through September.

STAR Parent Automatic Emails
Attached are instructions for parents to sign up to receive automatic emails when their student takes Star moving forward. The kicker is – the parent has to sign up PRIOR to the student testing. So this doesn’t help us with BOY results. We want to make sure this is shared out prior to MOY. We will include it in the family newsletter as well, but it would be a great idea to share it with your classes before the next Star test.

OVCA uses PhotoCircle as a photo library. During outings (both in-person and online), Professional Development, working with co-workers, etc. snap a few pictures and upload to PhotoCircle.
