When words are both true and kind, they can change the world! - Author Unknown
Welcome Back Franconia!
It has been a wonderful two days. I have enjoyed seeing your child(ren)’s smiling faces and warmed by their kind words. This year, our focus is, “Be the “I” in Kind.” What does this mean? Our thoughts, actions, and words are powerful! Throughout the school day, we will read stories, facilitate conversations, and model treating others with kindness. Saying and doing kind things builds our self-esteem and builds positive relationships. Research has shown that kindness changes the brain by the experience of kindness. Children do not learn kindness by only thinking about it and talking about it. Kindness is best learned by feeling it, so that they can reproduce it (O’Grady, 2015). I encourage you to meet as a family and discuss what this looks like and means for your family.
Sprinkle Kindness,
Dr. Heineck

Welcome Back from Home and School
Welcome back Franconia Families! Boy we have missed you! It's been a strange past few months to say the least and things will look different as school begins this year. Some families will be virtual, while others are returning to their school buildings. Likewise, Home and School will look differently this year with us not being able to host the traditional Franconia events we are used to. Please know that we will continue to support both teachers and students as we are able. We would like to invite you to join us for our Home and School meetings where you can learn about what's going on in the school and how to be further involved. Also - stay tuned to our Facebook page as well you can search Franconia Home and School as well as the weekly SMORE that will be emailed out.
Thank you Parents, Teachers and Administrators for your commitment and involvement in our children's education.
Warmly,
Home and School Executive Team (Bobbi Moyer, Mandy Wendell, Steph Parente, Cheramie Benfield and Leah Hetherington)
A good way to stay involved in your child's school!
The first Home and School meeting of the year (virtual) was on Tuesday September 15th at 7pm. It was great to see everyone, even if it was just virtually. Meeting minutes can be viewed on the Franconia website.
Our next meeting will be November 10th at 7pm. We would love to see you there!
A Message from our School Counselor
We were so happy to welcome back our students these past two days. We have missed them! While this school year will be very different, the kids are adjusting better than we ever expected. As we continue to navigate our post- COVID world, here are some tips and strategies to help children cope and adapt.
· Be a role model. Kids will look to you on how to react and behave. There are many different beliefs and ideas about COVID and the upcoming election. Share your families’ values and beliefs with respect and model positivity. Children learn from the example that you set for them.
· Be aware. How you talk about COVID can increase or decrease your child’s fears. Be aware when the kids are around, limit news and social media exposure and share a calm and reassuring message with your children.
· Listen. I do not know about you, but my child does not want to talk about school until around bedtime. It might be just a stalling tactic but I think its more than that. Kids need time to decompress after school, they want to relax and reacclimate to being home before hashing out the events of the day. Give them time and be ready to listen when they are ready to talk.
· Keep explanations age appropriate. Provide brief, simple information that balances facts with appropriate reassurances that the adults at school are here to keep them healthy and safe. Please support school guidelines and safety procedures when talking with your children.
· Stay connected. The school district has been sending information via email. If you are not getting school emails, reach out so that we can make sure you are getting what your family needs. The Franconia website and district website also have information posted. Check there first and if you still have questions reach out to the school and we will help.
If you or your family need additional resources, please call or email me. I am here to help make this school year the best that it can be.
In Partnership,
Barbara Coale, M.Ed.
