Jacob Perkins built the first refrigeration machine to be used for household purposes. The design included a vapor compression cycle. Perkins borrowed some of Evan's unpatented ideas for his design.

American physician named John Gorrie built a refrigerator based on Evan's design. It was very large and had several exposed mechanical parts.
