Once a Dragon, always a Dragon!
Dear El Carmelo Families,
We are a diverse, supportive, and vibrant community of educators and parents who care deeply about one another and our school. El Carmelo's spirit and connections run deep. That is comforting to know during this time of change and transition.
It is important to remember that the pandemic is temporary, and we will learn and grow from this experience. Every El Carmelo student, whether in Full Year Distance Learning or Hybrid Learning will remain an El Carmelo Dragon! Families in both Full Year Distance Learning and Hybrid Learning will receive The Hidden Gem, eNews, and messages about events and activities on Konstella.
Once a Dragon, always a Dragon!
SHOUT OUT to Dr. Tara MacCannell!
I have deep APPRECIATION for El Carmelo parent, Dr. Tara MacCannell, Epidemiologist/Infection Preventionist, for taking an hour out of her busy day to meet with me to discuss El Carmelo's safety protocols for students in the classroom, at recess, and lunch.
Dr. MacCannell answered many of my questions and reinforced that PRIORITIZING our efforts of preventing droplet transmission through emphasizing mask-wearing, social distancing, using splash guards, ventilation through spending some learning time outdoors and keeping the doors and windows open. Handwashing, disinfecting surfaces and keeping student materials separate in the classroom mitigate the spread of the virus as well. We will be executing all of these protocols to keep El Carmelo students, staff, and families safe.
THANK YOU, Dr. MacCannell!
Please take a look at the information below from last night's Board meeting. I have also included some tips for helping your children become expert hand-washers, mask-wearers, and physical distancers, who practice good "hand awareness".
Be well,
DanaƩ
Full Year Distance Learning & Hybrid Learning Information
The following are items that were agreed upon by the Board at last night's meeting:
- There was a 5-0 vote to approve the reopening plan that was presented by the district.
- Two amendments were added: The district shall convene a collaborative committee of district staff and teachers so that teachers can provide feedback on reopening plans, and site safety plans must be clearly communicated.
- It was also decided that families who do not submit a survey by the deadline ( for K/1 families the deadline was today at 5:00 PM) will automatically be enrolled in Full Year Distance Learning.
- The Board will decide in January whether or not to provide an option to change learning models.
DanaƩ,
How can I keep my child's teacher?
There are no guarantees in either program that you will stay with your child's teacher. There is an increased likelihood that you will have a teacher and classmates from El Carmelo if you select Hybrid learning, however, the teacher may not be the one you have currently.
Classes and teachers in both learning models depend on the number of students in each grade level. Once the District knows the number of students participating in Full Year Distance Learning, classes can be created and teachers will be assigned.
