Principal Walder's Monday Memo
For the week of February 3rd
Continue the Momentum...
The GOLD Team spent the past couple of weeks observing the implementation in January and we reviewed this data on Friday. The results were very positive. We want to continue this success. We will also ask for feedback at the end of the year to continue the success into future school years.
When we pre-teach expectations and set norms for behavior in our building, students know what to expect. Our GOLD team has created a great theme for our school that is simple to remember and fits all our needs for every area of our building. In order to continue this, we will need to continue the momentum by discussing the "why" and the research behind positive to negative student interactions.
As we have another break coming up, I thought it would be a good idea to review the "Why" behind schoolwide reinforcers. As always, teachers can do more in your classroom (TItan Ts, Class Dojo, tickets, points, etc.). We encourage everybody to use the GOLD coins frequently to reinforce the schoolwide expectations.
Reinforcers like GOLD coins or positive interactions support the research behind programs such as PBIS, Boys' Town, the Well-Managed Classroom and other formal programs. During PLC this week, we will review some of this research as well as talk about what this looks like at your grade level.
PLC Objectives for the Week
At the end of the PLC this week,
- we will have reviewed the research behind school-wide expectations and what research suggests is the ratio of positive to negative interactions.
- we will review a change to students receiving services in the TLR and Office Discipline Referrals (both majors and minors).
- we will review a February Challenge.
Here will be the driving questions of our conversation during PLC:
- Are you able to meet your students at the door for a positive interaction to start the day?
- What do you think is the ratio of positive to negative interactions you have with each child each day?
- What can I do to make the morning announcements social skill focus better for your grade level?
