Do you know what the freshman academy is?

Here is what the teachers from the MVHS Freshman Academy had to say:

The Freshman Academy is a yearlong program providing instruction in Algebra I, English 9, and Geography/History of the World. To facilitate increased familiarity, engagement and success, incoming freshmen are connected with a select team of teachers who work collaboratively and use instructional strategies to specifically address students' individual needs. As part of the Academy, students will attend shortened block classes daily with peers who have similar class schedules and teachers. It is the mission of the Freshman Academy to allow for a smooth(er) transition into high school while meeting the rigorous standards implemented at Mount Vernon Senior High School. The Academy is designed to provide a solid foundation for future academic success in the core subjects of English, Mathematics, and Social Studies. Freshman Academy students, based on their performance within the Academy, along with recommendation of the teacher(s) and guidance counselor(s), have the option of pursuing Honors courses and programs, in subsequent schedules, if desired. The program provides the traditional ninth grade curriculum that meets both state and district standards. Academy teachers are committed to fostering a personal learning community while establishing relevance and relationships within each academic area.
