Center Community Chat

Thank you Community Readers
Dear Center Community,
It was a fun filled week of learning and special times at Center.
We were pleased to welcome community readers. Thank you to all who came in to read and to those who welcomed readers into their classrooms. Did you know that there are books made from elephant poo? This was one of the fun facts our students learned from their guest reader.
It was exciting, after three years, to provide an opportunity for our young scientists to share their research and new-found knowledge with others. The effort students put into their projects was truly impressive. We are so proud of them. This event would not have been possible without the many parent volunteers who organized it, staff and community members who served as officials, and of course, our students who participated.
There was a festive atmosphere on Friday, with so many community members wearing green and seeing the mischief the leprechaun was up to in classrooms. Students made some impressive traps to catch him or her!
We ended the day on Friday with a whole school BINGO game to reward students for keeping our restrooms clean! Several classes got a surprise visit from Officers Sullivan and Ozzie.
World Down Syndrome Day
Did you know that 3/21 (Tuesday) is World Down Syndrome Day? This global awareness day has been celebrated since 2012. According to the WDSD website, the date was chosen to signify the uniqueness of the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome which causes Down syndrome. On this day people are encouraged to wear yellow and blue to raise awareness and crazy, mismatched or even an extra pair of socks. Wearing long striped socks was initiated to represent chromosomes or an extra sock to represent an extra chromosome. Here is a link to learn more about World Down Syndrome Day https://worlddownsyndromeday.org/.
Hope you enjoyed some more St. Patrick's Day fun this weekend, and to see you at the CSPTO meeting on Wednesday at 7 PM (https://meet.google.com/fxw-zghu-esb?authuser=0).
Warm Regards,
Dianna and Donna

MCAS Dates
Save the dates for MCAS, strategies for preparation (iReady) in the new year for grades 1-4
This year, students across the Commonwealth will be taking The Next- Generation MCAS for our annual standardized state testing. All students in Chelmsford will be taking the computer-based assessment using Chromebooks. Please mark your calendars for the important dates below. We strongly encourage all students to be present and on time these days. If your child is sick, we will have make-up sessions so that they are able to take the assessments when they are able to show their personal best work.
Chelmsford is fortunate to have access to iReady to support student learning. Students have access to this learning tool at home. Please reach out to your teacher if you have difficulty logging on. There is much research to support enhanced student achievement with use of this valuable tool. Please press the buttons below for more information.
*****Students are asked to leave phones and smart watches at home on assessment days.****

Center School Report Card
The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) has published the 2022 district and school report cards. Every year, each public school and district in Massachusetts receives a report card from DESE. Just as your child’s report card shows how they are doing in different subjects, the school and district report cards are designed to show families how our schools and district are doing in different areas. The report card includes multiple measures of a school and district performance – more than just MCAS scores. It represents a new way of looking at school performance, by providing information on student achievement, teacher qualifications, student learning opportunities, and more. Click here.
Change in 2022-2023 School Calendar
