About Bachata
People of lower class originally listened to this when they got together for a party. Bachata started as a dance in the Dominican Republic in the Caribbean Islands. Both the music and the dance have been influenced by Cuban Bolero, the Merengue, Salsa and Cumbia (a kind of Columbian dance music).
Characteristics
It is usually thought of as simple sounding. It is usually guitar based music. It is usually about romance or heartbreak. There are simple vocals backed up by guitars, a bass, and a rhythm section.
Dancing is a huge part of Bachata. The special costumes were usually worn for the dance. Women wore tight short dresses and men usually wore suits. It is based off of Cuban hip motion and the Bachata pop. It is usually a light pushing and pulling of your partner. There is a very close partner connection.
