Why do we GO?

Q: What is the chief end of man? A: To know God and to worship Him forever.

-The Westminster Shorter Catechism

Ask yourself the age old question - Why are we are? Like on a grand scale, what is the purpose of human existence? This is my wonderful wife’s favorite question. There are many ways to answer this question. I think the answer provided by the Westminster Shorter Catechism approaches as Biblical and deep of an answer as we could hope for. We exist to be in a right relationship with God, worshiping and serving Him, and telling others about Him. This is why we GO. In our going, we are helping others become truly human in the way God intends.

We often get this flipped. We mistakenly think that we exist for family, or pleasure, or something as trivial as a hobby or favorite sports team. These things aren’t BAD, but they aren’t our life’s purpose either. God calls all women and men of all people groups to Himself, to live in a right relationship with Him and discover how good it is to be His child. When we GO we willingly involve ourselves in this calling to help others find their calling. THAT is why we go - to help people find God and worship Him forever.

“To know God” Ps. 86:9; Isa. 60:21; Rom. 11:36; 1 Cor. 6:20 & 10:31; Rev. 4:11;

“To Worship God” Ps. 16:5-11; Ps. 144:15; Isa. 12:2; Luke 2:10; Phil. 4:4; Rev. 21:3-4
