~FIELD NOTES FOR FAMILIES~
Updates from Jackson~Week of September 20, 2021
Our mission: We are a community of learners inspiring each child to explore, grow, and achieve.
DELAYED START - 9/22/21
Wednesday, 9/22, is a two-hour delayed start for students. Bus routes will pick up two hours later than usual. Student drop-off is after 10:20. Teachers will be engaged in professional learning and staff members will not be on duty for arrival until then.
No breakfast will be served on delayed start days since lunch service begins at 11:00 daily.
TRANSPORTATION NOTE ~ LOST LANDS CONCERT TRAFFIC
You should have received this email message from our Transportation Director, Randy Lewis, last Friday.
Lakewood Parents and Guardians,
We are writing to advise you of possible delays in bus routes September 22-24. The Legend Valley Concert Venue will be hosting the Lost Lands Music Festival. In past years, we have experienced delays in traffic, especially in the PM. We expect to see an increase in traffic beginning Wednesday September 22. It will continue into the weekend.
We have been working with the concert staff, the Licking County Sheriff's Department, the Licking Township Fire Department, Licking Township Trustees and other agencies to assist us in getting busses through the heavy traffic areas next week.
Your patience during this time is greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Randy Lewis
Director of Transportation Services
SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR
Students will have time to browse/purchase books during library periods this week. If you send money with your child, please be sure it's clearly labeled for Book Fair so it doesn't get confused with other $$ for snacks at lunch or fee payments.
Correction: Two family evenings are scheduled on Wednesday (9/22) and Thursday (9/23) from 4-7pm as well.
PROGRESSBOOK GRADES
PrgressBook is our online grade book. If you don't have an account, or if you need some help registering and/or linking multiple students, please call and speak with Ms. Scott in our office. Here's the link to more information ~ https://www.lakewoodlocal.k12.oh.us/ProgressBook.aspx
During the first month of the school year, when teachers are getting to know students and administering building/district reading and math diagnostics, you'll likely see few grades/trend scores entered in ProgressBook. As the first quarter progresses, you'll see more grades so averages and trend-to-mastery scores on specific standards will even out. If you have any questions, please contact your child's teacher by phone or email to discuss.
FREE/REDUCED LUNCH/FEE WAIVER
Meals are free for all students this school year, however, if you believe you qualify, please complete this form and return it to school with your child. Families who qualify for free/reduced meals, may also qualify for fee waiver or reduction as well. If you'd like a paper copy of the form, just call Jackson at 740-928-1915 and we'll be happy to send another one home with your child.
BAND
Fifth graders have the opportunity to participate in band this school year. Don't miss the parent information meeting at LHS on Monday, 9/27, at 6:30pm in the auditorium.
Here's an important message from Mr. Caldwell.
It's band time again and I have a google form I would like filled out by EVERY 5th grade family!
Here's the link:

We're selling Pizza Kits to raise money to purchase additional recess equipment, educational resources, and positive behavior incentives/rewards! To reach our goal and be successful, we need everyone’s help. Every kit we sell earns $6 profit and makes an impact. Students who sell 6 pizza kits will earn a pizza and movie party.
Below is a link where you can go to create/customize a personalized fundraiser page. Each student seller will then have their own special link to send to your friends and family so they can buy delicious pizza kits and support our fundraiser.
To get started follow this link to create your very own Seller page.

From your seller's page, you'll be able to see how many pizza kits you’ve sold. All kits will be delivered directly to the buyer's home address by FedEx, so feel free to share the link with out of town/state family and friends. Don’t forget to buy some for yourself!

FEE WAIVER FORM
This form must also be completed to determine if your child qualifies for a fee waiver.
Although all students will continue to receive free meals (breakfast and lunch) for the 2021-2022 school year, we ask that anyone who may qualify fill out the form.
The district receives additional funding from the state and federal governments that directly benefit students based on the percentage of students who qualify.

Student Fees
If you prefer, you can pay with cash or check as well. Make checks payable to Lakewood Local Schools and should be paid by the first week of school.
DETAILS!
- Backpacks- If you need a backpack, please let the school know.
- Birthdays- Food is not permitted to celebrate birthdays. You may send in items such as pencils, stickers, bookmarks, etc. Your child's special day is announced and s/he will receive a birthday book.
- Masks- Masks are optional in the school building for students and staff. They are required for all bus riders.
- Parent Newsletters – Newsletters are emailed via OneView. If you haven’t updated your forms for this year, please be sure your contacts and email are correct so you don't miss out on school communications.
- Visitors-Ring the buzzer by the main door of the building. The office staff will communicate with you and buzz you in. Please come straight to the office for assistance.
- School Arrival Time: No child should be at school prior to 8:20 am and will not be admitted to the building before that time.
- Start time: The school day begins promptly at 8:50am. Arrival after that time is considered tardy and your child will need to come to the office for a late pass to class. We agree with you that every instructional minute counts! Please have your child to school on time, and please try to minimize early dismissals. House Bill 410 counts every minute and we want your child to have a great attendance record.
- Student Pick Up: Please have a picture ID available each time you wish to pick up your child during school hours. Those picking up students must be on the child’s registration or emergency information. This is for the safety and protection of your children. Thank you for your understanding.
COVID Protocols for 21-22
Please understand that should an increase in COVID-19 cases occur, additional mitigation strategies may be implemented to help keep students and staff safe.
A federal order issued by the CDC requires masks be worn by anyone riding on public transportation, and this includes school buses. Therefore, the Lakewood Local Schools are requiring face coverings on school buses and will have them available for all riders and drivers.
The following protocols are in place:
· Parents should continue to monitor children for symptoms. If your child is sick, please keep them home.
· Masks are optional for students and staff.
· Social distancing will be done to the greatest extent possible. Classroom and cafeteria seating distance is increased.
· Seating charts will be used in all areas because contact tracing is still required.
· Enhanced cleaning will take place in all buildings.
· Frequent hand washing and hand sanitizing will be encouraged.
· Sneeze and cough etiquette will be taught and emphasized.
· Students & staff should bring water bottles to school and use the bottle fillers in each building.
· Any student or staff member who tests positive for COVID-19, whether vaccinated or unvaccinated, will be required to isolate per the LCHD.
· Any student or staff member deemed a ‘close contact’ to an individual testing positive for COVID-19 will be reported to the LCHD. The LCHD will contact all ‘close contacts’ to inform them of the need to quarantine or not.
