The Straw That Broke America's Back
The Election of 1860
1860
The Election of 1860 takes place in a time where America is on the verge of being torn apart at the seams. Lincoln, a republican from Illinois, has won the electoral vote but only 40% of the popular vote. Against all odds, Lincoln takes office prompting the South Carolina to secede from the Union with others to follow. The Confederate States of America is now formed and it won't be long before shots ring out at Fort Sumpter in South Carolina to start the Civil War.
Abraham Lincoln
Republican Party candidate in the Election of 1860. Didn't agree with the expansion of slavery.
Stephen Douglas
Democratic candidate from Illinois. Put the word out that Lincoln wanted to end slavery.
