Bacon's Weekly Bits

September 25, 2015

At - A - Glance

Next week will be a typical 5 day week. We have lots of learning happening in room 304, so I am happy to fall back into a routine. Monday, we will have a lesson with our school counselor, Miss Hufft. We have been exploring economy, especially related to the events from the Great Depression. The kids will begin their realistic fiction draft portraying their understanding of past economic events through creative writing. We will be applying our bold beginnings to hook the reader, transitions to show time passing - fast or slow as needed, dialogue, sensory details, and excellent endings. We have been brainstorming our characters, setting, conflict, and lesson we want to expose through the plot. We will also be focusing on complete sentences with our writing. We have been introduced to food chains and will explore this topic more next week by acting out energy transfer using the food chain consumers and producers: carnivores, herbivores, omnivores, and detrivore/decomposers. We will be wrapping up Chapter 1 - Place Value in math.

Lots more information, just scroll down.

Not "Lion" Around

Lions NOT Lying Around – Mrs. Steenstra, our new PE teacher, has asked if you could please send her a picture of your child in motion. She is putting together a bulletin board with pictures of all of our students having fun through play. The pictures can literally be any type of movement: sports, cleaning, playing at the park, walking, jumping, etc. Please email the picture directly to Mrs. Steenstra –
