UN Day/Clothes
Dear families,
We started off our week with our focus question: What other special clothes do people wear? Many special events were mentioned. Mostly this week we focused on clothes around the world, especially from the countries we come from, and what a great way to celebrate with our UN Day!
We continued working on our clothes investigation and this week we moved our interest to the runway, yes you guessed correctly it’s been all about designing and washing clothes. The students have shown some interest in the way clothes are made; we explored the kinds of fabric there are and where they come from.
we began again with our clothes label. We noticed that this little tag can tell us so much! From where it is made, of what it is made, the size, and CARE INSTRUCTIONS! The DO's and DONT'S for each clothing.
We then compared liquid soap and powder soap. We asked ourselves which soap will make the best bubbles? The majority said that liquid soap would make the best bubbles, and of course we had to experiment this and get an answer!
UN DAY
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL OF YOUR SUPPORT, AND MAKING OUR CULTURAL BUFFET AMAZING! It was so much fun sharing with all of you this experience. A special shout out and grateful message to Mrs. Yuli and Mrs. Marianella (homeroom mothers).
On Wednesday UN Day was a total success!!! Throughout the week we conversed about how people in every part of the world dresses, speaks and eats differently. Even though we are all different we have to be respectful and appreciate each culture. Speaking about culture! We had the opportunity to have a banquet with traditional foods from all the different places our friends come from. Furthermore, our whole class embarked on a trip to different counties. We visited India, The United Kingdom, Italy and Spain (…talk about a cheap deal) When we were in the UK we had the opportunity to drink some tea with the Queen, and also made (insert British accent here) “marvelous” crowns. In India we made henna tattoos and danced to some Bollywood tunes. Then we went to Italy where we learned an Italian song and made pizza. We also talked about The Pizza Tower. Our last stop was no other than Spain, there we were able to make a Spanish abanico.
Italy, Italy Italy ...!!! we shouted
From Monday we started off painting our flags, and our classroom looks great! We looked at different clothes from around the world. We also read STREGA NONA and we sang Stella, Stellina.
On Tuesday we talked about Leonardo Da Vinci and we were also painting our Mona Lisa replicas.
On Wednesday our amazing UN day, where children got to travel around the world to visit different countries.
On Thursday, Nurse Millie was our special guest. She was teaching us some Italian phrases.
On Friday, We cooked some pasta and we discussed the story Stega Nona.
