FPCS Upcoming Charter Renewal Vote
FPCS Families,
- Monday, 12/6, at 6pm the ASD School Board will be voting on our charter renewal. Our charter is the contract between FPCS and ASD authorizing our existence and outlining the terms of our operations.
- The District is currently recommending a provisional 5-year rather than the typical 10-year, along with an enrollment cap of 1,850 students.
- Many of you have asked WHY?
- The District has stated their reasons are related to the purchase and approval of religious curriculum from 3+ years ago, along with APC board policy infractions. We have attached an explanation of the concerns and actions we’ve taken to address them here. We have also attached a description of our Curriculum Vetting Process here. We believe these documents accurately frame the context and scale of these concerns. We do not believe the severity of the concerns align with the District’s recommendations for our recharter.
- Why is a 10 year vs. 5 year a big deal?
- A 5-year charter significantly affects our ability to secure a building lease and make other financial decisions that sustain the longevity of our school. In short, it doesn’t allow our school to continue to excel to its full potential.
- Will you consider supporting our school by signing up to make public comment 12/6 either in-person or telephonically here, showing up in support at the ASD School Board meeting, and/or emailing the ASD School Board at schoolboard@asdk12.org.
- We are excited to see what the future holds for our school as we continue to partner with families and students.
Sincerely,
Jessica Parker, Ed.D

Smart but Scattered: Helping Kids Strengthen Executive Skills to Reach Their Full Potential
https://www.smartbutscatteredkids.com/blog/
What are executive skills? They are brain-based skills such as task initiation, sustained attention, working memory, planning, organization, and goal-directed persistence that are absolutely critical to school success. Some students seem to acquire them naturally, but many students struggle with them. Dr. Peg Dawson, co-author of the books Smart but Scattered and Smart but Scattered Teens, will describe how these skills develop throughout childhood and suggest strategies parents can use to help children acquire the critical skills they need to be successful students.Tuesday, December 14 at 2:30 pm

Here are pictures from our recent Botanical Garden Literacy event that we held for K-6 Migrant homeschool students. The kids had a great time and we had such fun seeing them participate in the different activities.
