Fulton Family Update

9/17/23

Dear Fulton Families,

Last week we enjoyed some opportunities to meet with you, our families! Tuesday was the first PTO meeting and there was a great turn out! It was exciting to discuss all of the events coming up this school year--from volunteer opportunities, social opportunities, and fundraising opportunities. It's going to be a fun year for PTO partnerships!

On Thursday, we also held Curriculum Night. Teachers enjoyed presenting about our students' day, learning standards, and ways to stay in close communication with you.

Thank you for following up with your children about the bathroom vandalism we have been experiencing. It did seem to help later in the week.

Standards Based Report Card Updates

Families can expect to see an updated report card this year. While we have had Standards Based Report Cards for the last several years, the look and descriptors have been updated. Previously we used an E, M, A, B reporting scale for whether students were exceeding, meeting, approaching, or below grade level standards. We will now utilize a 4, 3, 2, 1 scale, with a 3 being the grade level target. You will see and hear more about the report card at Curriculum Night, Principal Chats, and more. Please contact your child's teacher or the principal with questions you may have about the updated report cards.

MAP Assessments

MAP Testing will be completed on Monday, September 18th. Great job to all of our students. We can't wait to see how you continue to learn and grow this year! We will send home individual student reports on Friday.

Fulton Family-School Connection

One way for us to create a sense of community, and to get ALL of our Flames involved is to have a monthly photo submission. Each month we will have a theme for families to take pictures and share them with us. We will include some photos in the Fulton Family Update and all of the pictures we receive will be uploaded to our hallway TVs for everyone to see!

Our growth theme for September is “Learning Can Take Us Anywhere!" Please share a picture of your summer adventures anytime throughout the month of September.

Please send us your #LicenseToLearn photos to FultonFlatFlames@district146.org

Attendance

School attendance is critical for student learning. We encourage sick students to stay home. However, did you know that missing more than 10% of school attendance days may have a negative effect on student learning? See below for some tips to build good attendance habits. Please let us know if you are having any difficulties with your child wanting to come to school. We can help!

A reminder that the Attendance Line is available 24 hours/7 days a week. Please notify the office of any absence or anticipated late arrival by calling 708-614-4525. Additionally, if your child will have a change in dismissal plans (leaving early, not taking the bus, etc.), please let the office know before 2:30. Informing the office in a timely way makes dismissal run more smoothly for all!

Breakfast and Lunch Service

We will once again be offering breakfast and lunch to students in kindergarten through 8th grade. This year, all full-day students grades K-8 will receive a debit card to purchase breakfast and/or lunch. Those eligible for free and reduced lunches should submit an application.

Please check the breakfast and lunch menus linked below. Breakfast will be available each day until 9:00 a.m. Please speak to your child(ren) about whether they should get breakfast and/or lunch each day. If a student receives breakfast or lunch, their card will be debited. Card funds may be replenished on Pushcoin.

Breakfast and lunch menus are available on the District website and are linked below.

Bus Bulletin

American School Bus is now using Bus Bulletin to alert District 146 parents of bus delays and schedule changes.

Bus Bulletin sends parents instant notifications via text message, email, and/or phone call. There is no cost for parents to sign up and receive notifications.

For more information or to sign up for notifications, please visit the Bus Bulletin website.

School Safety Drills

During the first weeks of school, we practice many safety drills including evacuation drills, tornado drills, and a staff only lockdown drill with the police department as required by Illinois School Code. Fire drills are done three times, once with the fire department. We plan on having our first fire drill next week. Students will also walk to the off-site evacuation location within the first month of school (opt-out forms shared at a later date).

Our lockdown drill with students and the TPPD will be held Friday, September 22nd at 2:00 pm. Please contact Mrs. Mitera if you would like for your child to opt-out of this practice.

These drills are crucial in ensuring our students and staff follow safety procedures efficiently. Thank you!

Volunteer Background Checks

Family members who wish to volunteer in any capacity this year should fill out a background check form and return to the main office. This includes things like classroom volunteers, Mystery Readers, field trip chaperones, and helping at any of our PTO events at the school. It does take some time to process the background checks, so please allow yourself plenty of time before an event for it to clear. Thank you for your cooperation and participation!

Fulton PTO

The first PTO meeting was held on Tuesday. Future meetings will be the first Tuesday of the month at 4:30. Please let Mrs. Mitera know if you need translation assistance or other accommodations.
