The First Week of School
Welcome Back
We hope you have had a safe summer and weathered the storm last week. With school starting next week I would like to share with you some of the procedures we have in place for the school year due to Covid-19 restrictions. PLEASE READ THE BELOW INFORMATION AS IT CONTAINS PROCEDURES FOR STUDENTS AND ADULTS!!!
DROP OFF IN THE MORNING
- School starts at 8:15.
- No students are to arrive before 7:45, no exceptions. If you are dropping off your child, 8:00 would be preferable. We do not have supervision until 7:45.
- Students will be dropped off at the pod doors where their classroom is. With the exception of Ms. Sheets' first grade class will go in the 2nd grade pod as that is where the classroom is. We will not have a morning recess before school, students will go directly to their classrooms through the pod door where their room is. There will be signs on each pod as well as in front of the pod on the grass for Preschool, Kindergarten/1st grade, 2nd grade and 3rd grade. See the photos below that show what the signs look like. We will not be using the front doors. We will have staff outside the pod doors to get your child to the right room. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, PARENTS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO COME INTO THE BUILDING TO DROP YOUR CHILD OFF or to volunteer or eat lunch with your child.
- If your child needs breakfast we will be delivering grab and go breakfast to the classroom for your child to eat, students will not be going to the cafeteria to get breakfast.
- Your child needs a mask or shield to enter the building. Please ensure your child has a face covering before coming to school. Also, please wash their mask or shield each night at home. Parents and guardians need a mask or shield as well.
- When dropping off, please wear your mask or shield and socially distance for everyone's safety.
- Please do not park in the loop. Please park in the lot!
PICK UP AFTER SCHOOL
- Students will exit the building the same way we enter. If you are picking your child up you will need to go to the door you dropped your child off at. Please wear a mask or shield as they are required for anyone on our school grounds and please stay socially distanced. Once the teacher sees you, they will send your child to you. We will stagger our dismissal from youngest to oldest beginning at 3:15, 1:15 on early out days. We do not have after school supervision so please pick your children on time!
- Again, please park in the parking lot. The loop will be closed in the afternoon for everyone's safety. If your child is on the west end of the building, please do not park in the bus loop- the buses and daycare vans need room to get in and out.
- Again, please wear your mask or shield and socially distance when picking up your child.
LUNCH
- Lunch will be eaten in the classrooms. We will deliver the lunches to them so students are not going through the lunch line to get their lunch.
RECESS
- We have divided our playground into zones. Each class will have their own spot to play so we do not have classes intermingling. We are doing all we can to keep your child with their classroom and their classroom only throughout the day to minimize the contact.
- The classes will rotate to a different zone by day.
- Students and staff must wear their mask and/or shield during recess.
MATERIAL PICK UP
- If you chose the virtual option and have not picked up the virtual materials including an ipad or Chromebook, please contact the main office at 319-626-3950 to arrange pick up of these materials.
- Students that are back in person will receive their materials the first day of school.
- We are having students in person bring their device to and from school EACH DAY in case at some point we need to go virtual. Please make sure their devices are charged when they come to school.
ODDS AND ENDS
- Students will not be able to use our drinking fountains. Please send your child with a water bottle. If you don't have one we will provide one and we will wash those each night. Students will fill their bottles up in their classroom.
- We will not be offering the extra milk option at snack time at this time.
- Each grade level has a designated snack time. Please send your child with a snack each day(not preschool, their snack is provided). We will have limited extras to give your child so please make sure they have one each day. We cannot store extra snacks for your child.
- A change this year is that no birthday treats will be allowed at school. Students cannot share food and this would fall under that requirement. If a child brings a treat we cannot allow them to pass them out.
- If your child is returning in person, please contact your child's teacher to ensure we know how your child will get home; BASP, bus, pick up or walk.
We take your child's, your family and our staff's health very seriously. We will be doing everything in our power to put procedures in place that keep your child in a cohort all day and mitigation strategies to disinfect throughout the day.
