Literacy in 2/3!
Second and third graders are off to a strong start in literacy! Connected to our study of self and culture, we have explored the genres of biography and autobiography. Students created timelines of their lives, character maps of one another (as well as literary characters!), and are constructing biographical paragraphs to synthesize all they have learned!
Math Groups
After a week of informal and formal assessments, students have broken up into flexible, differentiated Math Groups! This first unit's focus is reviewing and expanding upon computational fluency. Mathematicians have jumped into dynamic projects, games, and hands on experiences. They have had the opportunity to explore math habits, such as partnering with others and discussing their thinking. They are reflecting on what they know and how they want to grow!
Ask your student about the game they have played with their math group!
Character Education and Theme
We are beginning our year focusing on our identities and cultures. As part of this study, students have been engaged in conversations about similarities and differences. They have honed their listening skills through games and activities. We are continuing to cultivate a close-knit community as we share what is unique about each of our selves.
Looking forward, students will create a shared vocabulary around emotions they experience during the day!
