Do you want to learn more about youth mental health, and how to support the children in your life? The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) of Washington County is offering a free class starting on January 25th. NAMI Basics is a 6-session education program for parents, caregivers and other family members who provide care for youth (ages 22 and younger) who are experiencing mental health symptoms. It's taught by a trained team with lived experience raising a child with a mental health condition. They know what you’re going through because they've been there too.

When: Wednesday evenings from 7-8:30pm, January 25th - March 1st

GRANTING WISHES to THS Teachers Benefits Students!

Thank you to all those parents who have contributed items and donated money to fund various teacher’s wishes! You are so generous!!

We still have many wishes unfulfilled that the PSO believes is worthy of funding. Please consider checking out the Sign-up Genius and sign up for something that you’d like to support. Cash, checks are always accepted at the school office and PalPal is linked to the Sign-up Genius account. You can also make direct payments using Zelle and PayPal with the QR codes below. We are closing this request February 3rd.

The THS Volunteer Parent Mentor program which currently has over 50 volunteers is seeking to add more volunteers to begin mentoring juniors in February. We will be having two new volunteer orientations, one on Friday January 20th at 9am in the Career Center, and again on Friday, the 27th at 9am virtually.

If you are interested in meeting one on one with juniors and seniors during school hours to help them plan and achieve their post high school goals this is the volunteer position for you. You will learn more about post secondary options, scholarships and the financial aid process to assist your own student. For more information see the Career Center website.

If you have a few hours per month to participate as a mentor and want to make a difference in the lives of our students, contact Jill Sims jsims@ttsd.k12.or.us.

Our next Cookies and Careers will feature dental hygienist/dental assistance. Students from PCC will share about the dental program at PCC, the educational requirements, criteria to apply and the career in general. Oregon reports an annual salary for dental hygienists at $94,000 annually and for dental assistants, $55,000 annually. Come to the career center on Tuesday January 24th to learn more. Bring your lunch and have a cookie on us!

Varsity boys basketball went 1-1 last week. The boys played well and got a big win on Tuesday vs. Westview (83-66) and lost a tight game on Friday at Benson (66-72).

Varsity girls basketball started Three Rivers League play last week with a tough loss at Lakeridge (36-56).

The wrestling team fell to Oregon City in their dual meet last Wednesday, but our individual wrestlers bounced back on Friday and Saturday in their tournament matches. Cade and Chase continue to wrestle well, both took 1st place on Friday. Sydney Knipe took 3rd and Valery Chun-Sajqui took 2nd in the girls tournament at Southridge.

In swimming our boys had the week off while our girls swim team competed at home against St. Mary's.

The Snowboarding team had a great day overall! Joanna Rodgers placed first in the Gorge League Banked Slalom.
