Mother Teresa's Work

The work Mother Theresa did was mostly for the poor. She started “The Missionaries of Charity” in 1950 to help care and love for the people who no one really prepared to look after. She cared for the lepers, homeless, and the poorest people in the streets of Calcutta in India. She had her sister’s help her and they would pick up the sick and dying from the streets, and do many other things with helping them.

Why was Mother Teresa important?

Based on what I’ve read, Mother Teresa was important because she helped all kinds of people from a really young age. She didn’t care how sick they were, all she wanted was to make sure that they were okay. She put others before herself and everyone hopes to be like that kind of person.

What did Mother Teresa do to become a saint?

Mother Teresa did many things to become a saint that no one could possibly name them all. She cared for all kinds of people who weren’t as fortunate as her. She actually was like them when she was younger so that’s why she got started with helping the poor. She wanted all people to be happy and live a happy life. She devoted her life to God at an early age of 18 and she hasn’t regretted any of it. She is the model of what a lot of people want to be and many people look up to her.

Mother Teresa's Life

Mother Teresa was born around August 26, 1910, in Skopje, the current capital of the Republic of Macedonia. She died on September 5, 1997 in Calcutta, India. She is the youngest of three children; Gonxha, Aga, and Lazar. Her family was poor during her life, but that didn’t stop her from changing the world. At the age of eighteen she went off to become a nun that was the last time she saw her mom. A year after her death, the pope nominated her as a saint. Her full name is Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta but her birth name is Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu. In Calcutta, Sister Teresa taught geography and cathechism at St. Mary's High School. Mother Theresa’s famous prayer is “Dear Jesus, help me to spread the fragrance everywhere I go. Flood my soul with The Spirit and Love. Penetrate and possess my whole being so utterly that all my life may only be a radiance of Thine… Amen.
