Andre’ Families,
Our super heroes have been busy unleashing their super powers all around our school! Thank you, parents, for supporting our Student Council project in conjunction with Cypress Ranch High School to collect items for care packages to send to former CFISD graduates serving in the military. Our super heroes know that one of the most important super powers they have is showing kindness and spreading joy. We are so proud of our Leopard heroes for contributing to one of the largest "Mustangs for the Military" donations to date.
Thank you, kindergarten parents, for joining us for our Community Helper Day. Kindergarten community helpers issued library cards and checked out books in the library, ensured our furry friends were healthy in the veterinary clinic, and sold many a sweet treat in the Andre’ bakery. Thank you for participating and making this a special day for our students.
We hope that everyone enjoyed the Thanksgiving holidays with friends and family. Here at Andre’, first graders kicked off the holidays with their precious First Thanksgiving play, and fifth graders wrapped up the day with colonial day activities. We are gearing up for another month of festive cheer. As December comes to a close, we wish you a joyous holiday break! We can’t wait to return for a fabulous New Year!

PTO sponsored Winter Parties will be held on Friday, December 20th, during your child’s assigned time listed above. All parties will be outside on the hardtop. The parties will have games, crafts and snacks for students to enjoy with grade level friends. All parents are encouraged to volunteer for this fun event. For information about volunteering, please e-mail our Andre’ PTO at andreleopardpto@gmail.com.
Please remember that all visitors must sign in and receive a printed name tag through our V-soft system in the front office. To receive a pre-printed badge, your official photo ID, driver’s license, or passport would have to be previously scanned and on file in our system. You can avoid long lines on party day by completing and returning the attached Winter Party Guest/Parent RSVP form by Friday, December 13th. Your name tag will be pre-printed and sent home with students on Wednesday, December 18th for your convenience.
If you wish to take your child home after the Winter Party, you will be able to sign your child out after the party with your child’s teacher. If you are requesting that someone other than the parent or guardian pick up your child after the party, please send a note on the morning of December 20th. You will need to include the name of the individual who will be signing out your child in the note. If you are wanting to check out siblings from other grade levels, you will need to do so in the Library. Only students at the party can be checked out on the hard top by the teacher. Once a student is checked out, they cannot return to attend a sibling's party.
*Siblings (this includes babies, toddlers, and school-age children, including elementary, middle and high school students) may not attend due to safety concerns and space constraints.
On party day, please remember to park in designated parking areas. Emergency fire lanes must remain open.

Stay Connected
We want to stay connected with you! Please visit our website at www.cfisd.net, select schools and facilities, elementary schools, and then Andre’. This will take you to our website. We will also regularly post photos and news on the Official Andre’ Facebook page. To locate our page, search @CFISDAndre. Make sure you follow us on Twitter, @CFISDAndre, as well.
Lost and Found
Have you been searching the house for your child’s missing jacket or lunch kit?
We have quite a collection of found items that we have on display in the cafeteria. Students will have an opportunity each day during lunch to look through the items to reclaim things that belong to them. It is getting cooler outside, and jackets will be needed.
Please remind your child to look for missing items before our Winter Break. Thank you for your support.
Counselors' Corner
The window for Horizons testing closed on November 30 after being open for two months. We enrolled a record number of students that we will be testing after the winter break. Thank you, parents, for returning surveys and parent permission slips to us in a timely manner. Kindergarten students will be the first students tested in mid-January, since they are the only students that receive services this year. Grades 1-5 will be tested after Kindergarten testing is complete and will be finished by the end of February. If students in these grade levels qualify for the Horizons program, they will receive services at the beginning of the next school year.
Our 4th and 5th grade Junior Counselors have completed their four-week training program. In the next few weeks they will be paired with a Kindergarten or First grade student who will be their “little buddy” for the remainder of the school year. Junior Counselors will be involved in facilitating weekly activities with their new friends. It’s a win-win for all students involved!
Words From the Library
Mobile Library
Check out extra library books on Saturday, December 7 from 9:30-11:30 at Yaupon Ranch Pool (Greenhouse and Dusty Yaupon).
Author Ross Burach visits 1st and 2nd graders on December 11. Books are available for purchase at Barnes & Noble and Amazon.
Feel free to send them to be autographed for your student.
Be sure to label them with the student’s name and teacher.
Looking Ahead
Mother Goose will visit Kindergarten on
Monday, January 13. Help prepare your student for her visit by reading some of her traditional rhymes like
Mary Had a Little Lamb and Jack and Jill!
Notes from the front desk
Lunch Visitors
Please limit your lunch visits with your child to one time per week. We have close to 1000 students and want to make sure we have space for all parents who would like to eat lunch with their children. A note is required from a guardian for anyone other than a guardian to have lunch with your child.
Absences
If your child is absent, please send a note on the first day of your child’s return to school stating the reason for the absence. Thank you.
Transportation Changes
If a child’s end-of-day transportation changes, the parent/guardian must send a note with the date, necessary changes and parent/guardian signature. If a note is not received, the usual method of transportation will be followed.
For safety purposes, no changes will be made after 3:30 P.M. and PHONE CALLS or E-MAILS CANNOT BE ACCEPTED.
Student Council
Student Council Candy Gram Sale
4th and 5th grade Student Council members will sell Candy Grams during lunch beginning December 9th. All Candy Grams are $1.00 and will be delivered on Friday, December 20th. The proceeds from the sale will help fund two Cy Springs HS Student Scholarships. Scholarships will be awarded in the spring to former Andre’ students graduating from Cy Springs HS in 2020.
Box Tops for Education
Each Student’s Goal= 10 Box Tops in December!
Did you know that Andre’ receives 10₵ for every General Mills Box Tops for Education we collect? As you are preparing for the holidays, and throughout the year, please remember to scan your receipts for Box Tops from participating products. Please see the flyer below for information on how to download the app and scan receipts.
You can still send in box top clips and certificates in a bag or envelope to your child's teacher.
If each student turns in 10 box tops, our school will earn over $1,100! Wow!
PTO
Hello Andre’ Families!
Thank you so much for all the support! We currently have 155 families registered as members of the PTO. We are trying to get 100% participation. Let’s make it happen, Andre’!
Volunteers are essential to any successful PTO, but as a member, you are not obligated to attend meetings or volunteer. By joining the PTO, your $15 membership fee, as well as funds raised from fundraising, spirit nights, donations and volunteer hours, goes towards classroom parties, buses for field trips, STEM programs, Family Fun Nights, teacher grants and our newest project for 2019- some NEW PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT. Please consider joining the PTO! Joining the PTO also allows us to build our partnership between the community, families and Andre’ staff. We look forward to the continued support from returning families and meeting all the new Andre’ Elementary School families.
Below you will find information of upcoming events and ways for you to get involved. Please feel free to reach out to the PTO Board if you have any questions or if you would like to become a member.
Sincerely,
Andre’ Elementary PTO Board
