WHY?
Infants thrive when their world seems loving, safe, and predictable. When you express love and respond to their needs, you teach them that they can count on you. Over time, showing love and responding helps them learn to manage their feelings and behavior. As they grow, feeling secure in their relationships gives them the confidence they need to explore, learn, and take on life’s challenges.
Young children are affected by your emotions, both good and bad. So, it is important to find strategies that help you cope with stress. Caring for yourself benefits your child.
MBK Quick Tip for Teens
Bloomberg Associates Site Visit to Fleming Middle School
On January 20th, 2017 MBK hosted members of Bloomberg Associates (BA) and provided them with a campus tour of Fleming MS. Members were given an overview of the WRAP network and the services that are being provided on that campus. Principal King give members demographics and stats of her campus and expressed the need for the services that MBK is bring on her campus. BA on-going support to Houston has come in the form of implementation guidance on challenges and efforts to institutionalize the MBK effort. In June 2016, Bloomberg Associates, Bloomberg Philanthropies and the White House co-hosted a national gathering of select communities to share best practices and develop approaches that will produce measureable results in reducing racial disparities over the long term. MBK Houston was featured and had the opportunity to address attendees on their governance structure and city-county partnerships.

Flashback Moments with the TAPS Academy
The goal of the Teen and Police Service (TAPS) Academy is to reduce the social distance between at-risk youth and law enforcement. This is accomplished through learning, interaction, and discussion between at-risk youth and the law enforcement personnel who serve their communities. Through this program, the two groups gain valuable insight about each other and the issues they face on a daily basis.
During the 11-week curriculum, TAPS covers specific topic areas associated with Children and Youth Safety (COPS-CPD-2011-3) such as violence, physical and sexual abuse, stalking, domestic trafficking, sexual exploitation and bullying. The Academy also covers law enforcement-related subject areas that are important to youth. Subject matter experts guide the youth and police officers through these topics weekly. TAPS Academy is designed to help youth: change behavior, learn responsible decision making, participate in crime prevention projects and reduce the social distance between themselves and law enforcement.
