ELK Family,
The 5th six weeks is off to a busy start. While extracurricular activities are important, I want to encourage you to carve out some family time. Eat a meal together, watch a movie together, play a game together, etc. There is no time like the present to spend quality time together.

From the Nurse
BHS Parents/Guardians:
Below is some information taken from our website regarding when to stay home due to illness and attached is a sheet from the CDC on flu information and prevention.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thank you,
Nurse Brooke
"We feel that attendance at BISD is extremely important to your child’s success at school. They must be here to learn! There are also important health reasons for keeping your child home from school. These helpful guidelines should be used to determine when your child should stay home from school due to illness:
- Fever of 100 degrees or higher in the past 24 hours- Your child needs to be free of fever for a full 24 hours without the help of fever reducing medications (such as Tylenol, Motrin or Fever-All) before sending them back to school.
- Vomiting and/or diarrhea in the past 24 hours.
- Itchy, red eyes with discharge.
- Rash that has fluid or pus coming from it until treatment has been received, and a note from the doctor states that your child may return to school.
- Ringworm of the scalp (until treatment has started)
- Head lice (may return after appropriate lice treatment) -Your school nurse will need to check your child’s head before he/she returns to class.
- - We ask that you help us in encouraging your children to wash their hands often, use hand sanitizer, and cover their noses and mouths when they cough or sneeze. It is also helpful for your children to get plenty of sleep and to eat healthy foods-especially breakfast.
- - The nursing staff will assist you if you have any questions concerning illness or communicability of a disease. We share a common goal – the health, safety, and educational success of your child!"

Lady Elks win twice
Burleson’s girls soccer team won its third consecutive game Tuesday night with a 2-1 district home win over Granbury.
The victory opened the second-half of district play and gave the Lady Elks the series sweep over the Lady Pirates.
Burleson (12-3-3, 5-0-3, 15 points) plays at Joshua Friday night and hosts Everman Tuesday night.
Gracie Spradley maintained her high level of play Tuesday with a pair of assists. Spradley picked up an assist on Faith Strube’s first-half goal and Maycie Massingill’s second-half marker. The win came on the heels of Burleson’s 1-0 win at Crowley Friday night in the Lady Elks final game of the first half of district play. Caroline Quinn scored the lone goal of the game in the first half off an assist by Spradley.
“We came out on Friday and competed at the caliber we have,” Burleson coach Erin Poyner said. “We out shot them, but their keeper did a great job keeping our best advances out of the net. We only had a small window to make adjustments last week and I'm pretty pleased with how quickly these girls can adapt their game. For us, it was a must win to keep us in the hunt for a playoff spot, which is our biggest goal right now.”

Freddy Hernandez scored twice for Burleson Tuesday night as the Elks got off to a nice start in the second-half of District 9-5A play with a 4-0 home win over Granbury. “That’s three big points for us to start the second half of district,” Burleson coach Travis Hughes said.

The Elks scored three times in the first half Tuesday. Hernandez opened the scoring off an assist from Jose Llamas. Henry Garcia followed with a goal and Hernandez added the next goal. Keeper Alex Heinle had assists on each goal off punts. Heinle also registered six saves.
In the second half, Hayden Whitten put the Elks up 4-0 by converting a penalty kick.
Friday night, Burleson closed out the first-half of district play with a 1-0 victory at Crowley. Hernandez scored late in the game to give the Elks the victory.
“It was a really good game between both teams,” Hughes said. “We both created some scoring chances. We were fortunate enough to get one in right at the end from Freddy Hernandez. We got good goal keeping from Alex Heinle. Hayden Whitten, Deangelo Garza and Landon Brown really stepped up their games.”
