Boys Basketball Wins 3 out of 4 Against Johnson City
The LVMS Viking basketball teams opened their 2019-2020 season Thursday night at home against Johnson City. The 7th grade "B" team put up a great fight on the court against Johnson City, having only two and a half days of practice. The Vikings did not see victory that day, on the scoreboard, but they saw victory in their accomplishments! The final score was 9-11, Johnson City. Impressive maneuvers and athletic ability were seen from all of its members. Members of the 7th grade "B" team are Isaac Alvarado, Otto Boyd, Tyler Bunnell, Reid and Lane Eleuterius, D'Andre Holcombe, Dylan McCaughey, Ryland Miller, and Joe Stark. Managers: Matthew Barrick and Kassidy Girard.
The LVMS Viking 8th grade Viking "B" Team also opened it's season Thursday night against Johnson City. The Vikings jumped to an early 1st-quarter lead of 17-0, and never let off the gas. The final score at the last buzzer was 40-3, in favor of the Vikings. We feel that it was a great level of competence and energy after only two and a half days of court time for practice. Members of this year's 8th grade "B" team are Dylan Ditto, Gannon Girard, Aaron Holt, Kayd Houston, Kais Northcutt, Ryan Oliver, Connor Priddy, Nash Renfro, Jax Rodriguez, Jose Saldana, Ricci Seda, and Townsend Wheeler. The 7th grade basketball team played at home against Johnson city and obtained there first win of the season. Leading scorer was Brooks Jackson and Koen Blakely. Defensive players of the game were Henry Sisemore and Greyson Buster. It was a hard fought game but Lago vista pulled away in the fourth quarter great job 7th grade A.
The 8th grade A basketball team played a great game this week vs. Johnson City. The Vikings defeated the Eagles 51-12. Zac Zaleski led the team with 13 points. Gavin M. Smith finished with 10 points. Decker Sims had a great defensive effort with 9 steals. It was a great overall team effort for the Vikings. LVMS basketball will travel to Florence to play the Buffaloes this Thursday night.
Girls Basketball Travels To Johnson City
Our basketball teams traveled to Johnson City on Thursday. Below you will find the results for our teams:
8 Blue:
Our Blue team really worked hard and hung on until the end but just couldn’t pull off a win this time. The final score was 41-16. This was their first game of the season and they will continue to learn and improve throughout the season. Sabrina Vaughn lead the team scoring with 12 points and also led the team in steals with a total of 5. Ava Loucks did a great job leading the team on the court and they all worked well together as a team! Also contributing to the team were: Gracie Clarkson, Ava Loucks, Bethany Rocha-Arbizo, Naidelyn Orozco, Julietta Arellano, Gabby Spragley, and Cheyenne Hernandez.
8 Gold:
8th Grade A team had a hard fought victory on Thursday vs. Johnson City. It was a defensive struggle for both teams but in the end LV came out on top 28-15. Addison Lockhart led the team in scoring with 10 points followed by Emma Clark with 8. The defense played their hearts out all night. The defensive standout was Kendall Karg who lead the team in steals. The team will continue to concentrate on playing good defense and creating scoring opportunities off of turnovers.
7 Blue:
Our Blue team fought a hard fight in their first game of the season but came up short in the end with a score of 28-10 against Johnson City. The girls did a great job of playing together as a team. They picked up on quite a bit in just a couple active practices and I was very proud of them! Our leading scorers were Stella Gjelaj and Emma Prestage with 4 points each. Claire Brumfield lead the team with 7 steals, followed by Emma Prestage with 3 steals. Also contributing to the team were: Isabella Adams, Sienna Parsons, Sydney Abott, Paige Parsons, Lily Medina, and Joscelin Topete.
7 Gold:
7th grade A team played well against the Lady Eagles, but could not pull out a victory. The Lady Vikings’ defense and pressure led to several steals, but the baskets were not falling in their favor. The final score was 24-13. This was their first game of the season and they will continue to grow to become an even better basketball team. Shea Yeary contributed 6 points and 4 steals. Amelia Robinson added 4 points and 11 steals. Lastly, Sydney Heibert had 3 points and 6 steals. Chloe Patton, Maddie Kassel, Hanna Simmons, Sydney Dohm, and Emily Jungman also added crucial steals and rebounds to their team. Great job Lago Vista!
