The Fairview Connection
October 16, 2020
MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL OPHUS
Dear Fairview Families,
As the weather is now feeling very much like fall and the leaves around us continue to change colors and drop in our lawns, I have started thinking about some of our Fairview traditions that typically occur around this time of year. While we will not be able to host our annual PTO Boo Bash and Halloween parade/parties as we usually do, we would like to do something fun with Halloween coming up. Rather than having our typical parade around the school, families are encouraged to take a photo of their child(ren) wearing their Halloween costume and email it to Ashley Patla, Fairview’s Instructional Technology Coach, at email@example.com. Ashley is going to create a Virtual Halloween Parade slideshow for Fairview families to enjoy seeing one another in their costumes. This is completely optional, of course, but if you are interested, send your photos in by Monday, October 26th. We will share this out with families in the newsletter on October 30th!
In other exciting news, the Mount Prospect Public Library is proud to announce that they have worked with schools across the entire Mt. Prospect community to participate in “Woven Together: One Town, One Day, One Read” on Wednesday, October 28th. The purpose of this event is for classroom teachers across Mt. Prospect to read and engage in discussions with their students about the book Blue Sky White Stars, by Sarvinder Naberhaus. Then, at 7:00 p.m. families can register to participate in a live reading by the author if they register for the event at https://mppl.org/woven-together/. This website includes more details about the event. See the two flyers posted below for additional information as well. We appreciate our friends at the Mount Prospect Public Library for the many ways they partner with us to benefit our students and families and hope you are able to participate!
We are making good progress on new class assignments for students based on the preferences provided by parents on the enrollment survey. Mrs. Durkan and I contacted several families with follow up questions this week. We plan to provide teachers with a chance to view the lists this coming week and then will share assignments with families on Monday, October 26th. We will be sharing additional information with students and families about our procedures for returning to school in the weeks to come both in the classroom and through this newsletter. Be on the lookout for specific information about our procedures to be released during the last week of October.
I hope you all have a wonderful and relaxing weekend!
