A Trusted General
Nathanael Greene was born on August 7, 1742 in the forming colony of Potowomut, Rhode Island. Nathanael received little education and only learned from the books that were available. In 1774, he married Catharine Littlefield a woman from Rhode Island. Him and his wife had seven children. Nathanael is known for his many years as a major general of the Continental Army. One of his good friends was George Washington and he fought with him in battles such as the battles of Trenton, Brandywine, Germantown, and Valley Forge. Another reason he is remembered is because he was so close with Washington. Nathanael died on June 19, 1786.
