UPK-4 Information
In early March we will be working with the Avon Lions and Lioness Clubs for their “Screening Eyes Early” program, called Lions See. Our UPK, Kindergarten and First grade children will receive free testing which will photoscreen for a number of visual problems. The two clubs, along with our nurse Nicole Montesano, coordinated the screening with parent permission. We are fortunate to have this volunteer organization in Avon supporting our children.
UPK Interest forms have recently been mailed to eligible Avon residents. Children who live in the district and will turn 4 before December 1st are considered eligible for our UPK program. Interest forms are due to the main office by March 15 in order to be entered into the lottery. Our lottery will take place around April 15 in which we will notify parents and then registration packets will be due. For more information, please visit our website at www.avoncsd.org
Grades 5-8 Information
February’s Focus is on Empathy: During the month of February middle school staff and students will be focusing on empathy. Empathy is trying to understand what another person is feeling. It is seeing the world through another person’s eyes. Students are being encouraged to practice empathy by listening to someone rather than trying to talk to them, asking someone how they are feeling if you think something is wrong, learning about people from different backgrounds and cultures, showing concern for others, paying attention to the needs of others, and getting to know someone better instead of judging them.
