HOLY ROSARY NEWSLETTER
Term 2 Week 1 Friday 29 April
FROM MARK
Hi Everyone,
Welcome back! A particular welcome to the new children and their families joining us in Years Three and Five. We trust that your connection to this lovely community is life-giving and enjoyable.
I hope you have all had a chance to do things you enjoy. The amazing weather made so much possible.
Rather than send you two newsletters this week, we will stick to just this one - which I'm sure you would agree is quite enough.
The covid rules have changed and are included in this newsletter together with reference to some information shared last term.
Today's staff development day saw a presentation from Peter Mitchell - 'Mitch' - who is the creator of Making Jesus Real. His words were an important and timely reminder of why we do what we do in Holy Rosary as a Catholic community.
Last term saw very little lost property evident around school - testament perhaps to our children taking responsibilty for their belongings. Almost every child in Year One knows how to unpack their bag and get set for the day. The way in which they stepped up last term does them great credit. Long may they continue!
We look forward to the term ahead!
Best wishes
Mark

SCHOOL CALENDAR
COVID conversation continued....
The Premier announced on 13 April 2022 that the Western Australian close contact definition will now align with the National Cabinet’s definition.
This means that a close contact is now defined as:
a family or household member of a person with COVID-19 who has had contact with them during their infectious period;
someone who has had close interaction with a person with COVID-19 during their infectious period, where they spent more than 4 hours with them in a single day, in a residential setting, including a boarding facility, where masks have not been worn; or
someone who is directed by WA Health that they are a close contact.
Schools are no longer considered close contact venues. A child who attends class with a peer who later tests positive to COVID-19 will no longer be identified as a close contact.
Any child who becomes symptomatic should stay home and be tested for COVID-19. Please continue to refer to healthywa.wa.gov.au for information on close contact definitions, testing and isolation requirements.
Any positive COVID-19 result should be reported on the school’s COVID-19 Self-Reporting Portal and positive COVID-19 RAT results must also be reported on the WA Health RAT Register, as is required by the WA Government.
The changes will not make a lot of difference to the way in which we are currently operating.
We continue with ‘assemblies’ and merit and MJR awards in their current form. While parents can’t volunteer to assist in class, parent meetings with teachers are OK after school when children are not in the classroom.
Volunteering to help Leanna can continue and is welcomed. Current vaccination status is required.
Outdoor drop off and pick up of children, as opposed to outside of school drop off and pick up is now OK as long as all the social distancing and masks expectations are adhered to. On site, we are still expected to keep grades separate in work and play.
The layers of complexity at school level are significant, and I am so grateful to our staff who, with the support of both our P&F and School Advisory Council are taking the requirements seriously and adapting smoothly to updates as advised by CEWA/Health/State.
Of course, this is as it is, at the moment. No doubt there are more questions about further possibilities that you may have. Should things be reviewed again we will be back in touch.
The big deal is that our children’s education and experience at our school continues, and continues to be as good as it is. What is taking place in class and at play is fantastic. I think the ‘Assembly’ videos of Preprimary (PP Assembly), and of Year Three (Year 3 Assembly)and Year Five (Year 5 Assembly) are testament to that.
We want as many children as possible to be well and to attend school. With your continued help we can make that happen.
For health advice, and clarity on isolation etc please contact WA Health on 1300 316 555.
