Antibiotics in Livestock Production
Justin Walz
Antibiotic use is beneficial to help produce a heathy efficient animal.
Even though there are some people against antibiotics, the use of them in livestock that are produced for human consumption is important to having a high producing, healthy animal.
All meat in the United States is randomly checked to make sure producers are following the proper procedures of drug usage.
Even though agriculture does use the most drugs, hospital malpractice is where most antibiotic resistant bacteria comes from.
Usually if a carcass is found to contain antibiotics, it is an accident because producers are trying to make money, not lose it in fines and penalties.
Proper drug usage and knowing withdrawal periods is important to prevent drug residues form being present in the meat at the time of slaughter.
