Important Information for You!
I am very excited that the Traveling Library is going DISTRICT-WIDE this year! Each building will get to host one day on the bus! Thomson l is scheduled to go out on Wednesday, July 10th! I will be traveling with the bus and invite any and all of our Thomson family to join us for a fun-filled Thomson book tour! More information will be out soon. Let me know if you can join us!
And the year is down to 10 days!
I can't believe that we are down to 10 days of school! Just a couple of important remind-
ers...first, there are still 10 days of school and while there are many 'fun' activities happening at the classroom and building levels it is important to maintain as much consistency as possible. This includes classroom arrangements and decor. I do not want to see bare classrooms as this sends the message that 'school is over'. Additionally, teachers should not be working on records, report cards, or other end of year duties while students are in the classroom...this also means we shouldn't be showing an abundance of movies or spending a lot of time out for extra recesses. Remember, that you technically have three half days to complete all of these activities and teaching is not an hourly job. I know many of you want to check out and be done on June 21st and I totally get that, but we owe it to our students to give them 100% until the end. Additionally, remember that for some of our most at-risk students summer is not always a fun and joyful time. For some this means the end of daily breakfast and lunch, a structured routine and safe environment. Please keep this in mind as you may see changes in student behavior. If there is a situation that we should be mindful of or that we can assist with, please let me know. Thank you for staying committed to our students until the very end!
KRA Training II
This Tuesday and Wednesday, will be the second round of KRA Training. Both days will take place at the Williams Property in the south house (the one closest to the entrance). Staff that will be trained on these two days will need to be sure that they have their accounts set up via the email Eric Chorley sent out in May. If you have not done this, please contact him prior to training.
All teaching staff that are trained will need to provide the copy of their completion certificate by Tuesday, June 18th. Those staff that have not yet been trained will get more informaiton at their training.
Roy, Jim, Anna, and I have been working on getting Field Day all planned and ready. The weather for Friday...right now...is predicted to be cool, but sunny, perfect for Field Day. The tyvek bracelets we have used in the past have been ordered, please be sure to put names and room numbers on them. You can also include the group A/B if that is helpful. Teachers should plan to move back and forth between groups, unless it is their special time in that case a specials teacher will 'take over' if the teacher wants to leave their class to head inside for planning.
Additionally, the office will put sign-out sheets in all afternoon field day teacher mailboxes. This will allow parents to sign out their student from the classroom without having to go to the office. Hopefully, morning parents will not be taking their child home at the end of field day, but if morning parents choose to do so, they will need to sign them out in the office and the child will be called down.
Staff may wear shorts/athletic gear with a Thomson t-shirt if they'd like.
Decrease classroom clutter to increase creativity. Since I began at Thomson almost 8 years ago I have been a strong proponent of getting rid of clutter throughout the building. Theresa Wendt shared this article with her staff and I believe it is a great read at a timely part of the school year. The biggest reminder I can give is that the classroom is a place for learning...not a place for storage. Take time to read this very timely article.
Here's to a great last full five day week with our amazing staff and students!
Quotes Worth Reading
"It's a terrible thing, I think, in life to wait until you're ready. I have this feeling now that actually no one is ever ready to do anything. There is almost no such thing as ready. There is only now. An you may as well do it now. Generally speaking, now is as good a time as any."
Celebrations & Announcements
Birthdays: No birthdays this week...
Whether you made it or not...to Lori's retirement party, please enjoy some of the many left over treats that will be placed in the lounge. Also, I had shared with a group about Lori's 'love of lesson planning' and Sue Kenkel brought a blank lesson plan book for people sign, reflect in, and share 'lesson plans' for life with Lori. I will be placing it in the lounge for staff to sign. I know Lori would appreciate each and everyone of you taking a quick minute to share in it.
