Personalized Learning in SHS

Previewing 2018 SHS Initiatives

Personalized Learning in SHS this year has been continuous learning journey towards student agency. We rolled out the WE OWN IT campaign through advisory from semester one, and now we are well on our way with student suggested advisories this semester. Recent lessons have been of Friendships, Good Relationships, ACT/SAT Information, and this upcoming Monday's Financial Literacy. (We're at the END OF TAX SEASON!) Our visit from county rated SHS as Operational on most tenets and SHS has received much accolades from the PL work of teachers around the building.

Here at SHS, we continue to keep moving forward as we continue on our PL journey in the next school year. Upcoming campaigns / initiatives include Engaging in Action and Tiger Time. Both initiatives centralize on extending the classroom learning (and even the classroom!) and building good, meaningful relationships in our community.

Japanese Culture Club welcomed the Konnichiwa Club of Atlanta!!!

SHS Japanese Culture Club welcomed the Konnichiwa Club of Atlanta last April 12th. Ms. Munoz, their sponsor, invited the guests to deliver a unique in-school experience where students were able to learn about the history of kimono’s and try them on. Students took turns in wearing the kimonos and they proudly showed them off to their teachers and peers!

Mrs. Yost's class extended their learning at the Microsoft Store in Lenox!

Last newsletter, we showcased one of Mrs. Yost's classes going to the Apple store to create podcasts and take their learning back to the classroom to demonstrate and EXPRESS their knowledge. This time around, Mrs. Yost took her students to build 3D animations with different shapes. At the direction of one of the Microsoft employees, the students manipulated and created digital projects to satisfy an ENGAGE and EXPRESS portion of their learning. Keep rocking, Mrs. Yost!!!

Counseling Department

-Counselors are in the process of preparing course requests for current Stockbridge students as well as rising 9th graders who will come to us in the Fall from our feeder middle schools. Copies of course requests for the 18/19 school year will be available online by March 5, 2018.

-Preparations are underway for Georgia mandated Bridge Bill advisement with all students grades 9 through 12. More information will be disseminated over the coming weeks.

-All students are encouraged to submit their college acceptances to the counseling department as they receive them. A display wall and weekly announcements will highlight these seniors and their academic achievements.

-Congratulates to all SHS Tigers who worked hard, focused themselves and finished the course in time to graduate high school early! We are proud of these ambitious scholars!

Assistant Principals' Corner

Attached is an “Everyday Preventive Action” plan that can assist in fighting the spread of germs such as the FLU. As well as a “Too Sick for School” information sheet. Please take the time out to read the attached flyers especially since we are in "flu season". Also a reminder that no student should be wearing a mask unless they have provided documentation to the clinic and have received approval from an administrator. Please feel free to contact the clinic if you have any additional concerns or questions. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
