Principal's Message
February 28, 2020
Hello Willink Families,
Believe it or not, we are halfway through the third marking period this week. As we head into March and women’s history month, it’s hard to believe that there are only 15 weeks of school reamining.
With the spring season comes longer daylight, spring sports, our student run play, state testing, and - hopefully - some spring weather. It’s also a good time to provide reminders to our students to continue to meet the high expectations we have for them. I’d like to share a few reminders in hopes that we can continue to partner together to give our students a consistent message and also recognize the great work they do every day.
“Coffee House” and Energy Drinks
Please remember that students should not bring or consume these outside beverages at school. Water bottles are welcome and there are several drink items available in the cafeteria during lunches as well.
Bluetooth Speakers
Thank you for helping our students remember to keep speakers at home. While music and media may be listened to at appropriate times on the bus or during the school day, we ask that students use headphones or keep their devices silenced out of consideration for others.
Cell phones and Smart Devices
We also want to thank you for reinforcing that cell phones and other smart devices need to be off and away during the school day. Student chromebooks provide the technology needed to access their learning environment. This is something we strive to model as a faculty and staff as well. Please encourage students to utilize a school office for any communication needs (and thank you for doing the same :)
Spanish Lab/Math Lab
For 7th and 8th graders taking Spanish, we want to remind parents that we have teachers available during lunches to provide additional language support. I’m including the schedule below. Likewise, our math lab is open during all lunches and study halls for students in grades 6-8 seeking homework or skill support. Please encourage your child to take advantage of these supports if needed or contact us with any questions. We also have French and German support available before and after school.
Spring Sports
For our 7th and 8th graders interested in spring sports, please note that a physical dated on or after March 1st of 2019 is needed in order to be eligible. Additionally, signups must be completed online through FamilyID. Many teams are holding informational meetings beginning next week - these dates are read on our morning show and posted throughout the building.
No matter what the sport or club/activity, I hope to see all of our students participate in at least one extra curricular during their time here at Willink.
Thanks for checking in and have a nice weekend.
