Featuring the Dallas Zoo Animal Adventure Program: This is an interactive educational program giving us an up close and personal experience with several animals, birds, and reptiles from around the world. Come and see these worldly creatures and learn about where they live, what they eat, and how they survive!
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: Please share your culture with us! This is a big part of the night and we need parent help to make this happen. Our goal is to have a variety of cultural booths for our students to visit.
- Host an informative booth with pictures, kid friendly facts, and any cultural items you would like to share.
- Bring cultural food or drink samples to pass out in the cafeteria.
- Teach a fun cultural activity or game.
- Face painting, Henna, or other skills that you can offer to help us celebrate!
Please contact Melanie Taylor at culturaldiversity@carlislepta.org for more information and to sign up!!
Hygiene Kit Drive
Carlisle Elementary PTA invites you to join the Plano Council of PTA in the 5th Annual Hygiene Kit Drive.
Did you know that 29% of all Plano ISD students are currently experiencing poverty?
When the physical needs of children are not met, they have difficulty learning and being successful in school. We can help these students.
In collaboration with other PISD schools, the goal is to complete 1,200 hygiene kits -full size kits to take home and travel kits for 5th grade Adventure Camp. With everyone’s participation, we can do this!
Our school counselor Melody Jones and nurse Judith Grace will have the opportunity to speak with the students on the importance of these items and how these necessities promote living in a healthy environment.
Donations from Carlisle students are available from now through Thursday, November 3rd. Students are encouraged to donate by grade level but other items listed below are welcome as well.
- Kindergarten—Hair Brushes/Combs and quart size Zip Lock bags
- First Grade—Deodorant and Toothbrush cases

Parents, I am currently in need of larger sized pants and shorts. Unisex colors with elastic waists are best. Kids sizes 10-12-14 or Large will be the best. Thanks for considering us as you clean out the seasonal and outgrown clothing.
Take a Taste Tuesday
The letter “E” brings us a taste of Eggplant this week. Eggplants grow on vines and although there are several varieties of eggplants, in the U.S. we usually see the deep purple ones. Eggplant is not usually eaten raw but it is very tasty when roasted with spices and olive oil or baked with cheese and sauce. It can even be used in a disc shape and grilled like a burger on a bun. Eggplants are not high in any one nutrient but they do have a small amount of a lot of nutrients. Eggplant is a cousin to tomatoes, potatoes, bell peppers, chili peppers and jalapenos. This week Mrs. Parente’s class got to taste the eggplant that Miss Grace roasted with olive oil, salt and pepper and parmesan cheese. Most kids had not ever tasted eggplant but almost everyone – about 80% of the kids, said they would be willing to try it again. They thought it tasted pretty good because of the spices and the cheese. Eggplant is not expensive so add one to your shopping list this week just for fun.
Friendly Reminders -
Absences: Please call the Child Safe Line at 469-752-0600; press #3, and follow the instructions to let us know when your child is going to be absent. We will need your child’s name, homeroom teacher, dates of absence and reason. You will need to send a note to the front office when your child returns to school to excuse the absence. After seven (7) cumulative excused absences, a doctor’s note shall be required to excuse any further absences. It is critically important that your child be in school every day to benefit from optimal learning opportunities.
We would love for you to volunteer at Carlisle. Please go to www.pisd.edu and click on “Volunteer Applications” and follow the instructions provided on that page. If you were a volunteer last year, you must renew your application. All current background checks were purged on July 1st. Remember, you will not be able to volunteer in your child’s class or attend fieldtrips until this process is complete.
