School Safety
In light of recent happenings in schools across the country, school safety is on everyone's mind. The safety and security of Fairmount Elementary students and staff are of utmost importance. We also want to keep parents in the know about school safety. Crisis management plans and procedures have been established for our school. Staff members have an understanding of these plans and are fully able to implement them as needed. District administrators also coordinate closely with city and county emergency management officials and law enforcement representatives to develop and update plans.
In addition, Fairmount has well-established security measures to help ensure the well-being of students and staff. These include: visitor check-in procedures; designated safe areas in each building; surveillance cameras; and school resource officer support. Fairmount also conducts drills periodically to provide students with opportunities to practice lockdown and evacuation procedures.
One area of concern for student safety at Fairmount is dismissal. As a school community, it is everyone's responsibility to assist with school safety. We felt the best way to do this would be to share our dismissal procedures and times lines with our Fairmount family.
1.) If your child has a change of dismissal for the day, please contact us as early as possible. We understand that there are emergencies, but the sooner we know the change, the better we are able to prepare for that change.
2.) If your child is a car rider, please display the official school car tag in your front window during the entire pick-up process. This helps ensure that students are placed in the correct vehicles. If you need a car tag, please stop by the office anytime to get one! Just provide an identification card, such as a drivers license.
3.) If your child is a walker, please notice the time of dismissal. Due to buses loading and traffic in the parking lot, we are asking parents to not come to the walker dismissal area until 3:15 pm. This will allow for students to load the busses without the risk of unauthorized persons in the vicinity. Please make sure that upon approaching the building and leaving the building you are walking on the sidewalks and not through the middle of the parking lot.
Time Lines:
Car Rider Dismissal - begins at 3:00 pm and ends at 3:20 pm
Bus Dismissal - begins at 3:05 pm
Walker Dismissal - begins at 3:15 pm
Thank you so much for helping to keep our students safe!
