A Message from Proud Principal, Laura Clark

What a wonderful first week of school! I have to say, even after 27 years, the first week of school still fills my heart with excitement. I loved seeing our students enter the building with their new school supplies, first day outfits, and SMILES on their faces. We have something special here at Parsons Elementary and I am so proud to be a part of this school community.

We welcomed 123 new kindergartners this school year to our Parsons Family! I am so proud of our 1st through 5th graders for modeling our ROAR behaviors throughout the building for our kindergartners to learn from.

I look forward to working with each of you throughout the year to continue the important work we do...ensuring our students are ready to be our next generation of leaders.

School Messenger Update (Texting)

Due to some recent text regulation changes by the FCC, Gwinnett County Public Schools is no longer able to use text messaging services to distribute information to parents. This includes texts and "robo calls" from GCPS School Messenger as well as third party text reminders like Remind.

At this time, please ensure we have an email address on file that you regularly check. We will use S'More (weekly eNews), email, our school website, eClass, Class DoJo, weekly teacher newsletters, and our school marquis as ways to communicate.

Please know the district is working diligently to find a solution, and we hope to have some alternate avenues soon for quick communications like text messaging.

After School Clubs

We have several opportunities for your students to participate in after school clubs sponsored by outside agencies. You will be receiving different registration forms for the clubs that will be available for you to register your child for in your Friday folders each week. If you are interested, you must register online or on their form with the companies that are offering the classes. The school does not take registration forms or money.

Here are a few of the clubs that will be offered this semester-- Chess Club, Drama Kids, Tiger Jo's, Young Rembrandts, i9 Sports, Korean Language and others may be joining later.

Afternoon Transportation

All transportation changes must be made in writing.Whenever you need to make a change to your child's afternoon transportation plan, please complete an Afternoon Transportation Change Form, which can be found here https://www.gcpsk12.org/Page/11429 or on our school's website, and send it in to your child's teacher. We will utilize this form to create the appropriate afternoon transportation pass. Please remember the GCPS Bus Rule: No passes will be issued for play dates, birthdays, weekend sleepovers, etc. For security reasons we DO NOT accept transportation changes through phone calls, faxes or emails.

Student Checkout

As part of our school safety plan, anyone checking out a child must present photo identification and be listed in our system as someone able to have access to the student. If you need to make changes to your list of approved emergency contacts, you may make changes on the Parent Portal or stop by the office to update this information. As a reminder, students may NOT be checked out after 3:00 PM.

For assistance in updating contact information on the parent portal, please visit https://www.gcpsk12.org/Page/11430.

Dual Language Immersion Program

Parsons is the 9th school in Gwinnett County Public Schools to offer a (DLI) Dual Language Immersion Program and we are the only Korean DLI program in the district and the state. This brings us much PRIDE!

We began the program on the first day of school with 47 Kindergartners. Our team of two teachers, Mrs. Kim and Mrs. Gambrell — one being fluent in Korean— will work together teaching the Kindergarten AKS half the day in Korean and the other half of the day in English. Through this collaboration, students will develop proficiency in both English and Korean. By high school graduation, our participating Kindergarten students will have acquired solid bilingual skills. This is exciting because we know communication and collaboration in the global marketplace will become increasingly valuable skills for our students as they prepare for college, careers, and citizenship after graduation.
