Husky Newsletter
May 2022 Edition for Parents/Guardians
Letter from Your Principals
With May being the last full month of the school year, we can't think of a better month to celebrate our amazing Husky teachers. May 2nd-6th is Teacher and Instructional Assistant Appreciation Week, and we have to say....Scarborough Elementary has some of the finest, most dedicated, selfless teachers we have been priveledge to work alongside in all our years of teaching.
Day in and out, we walk the halls seeing enthusiastic teachers greeting students in unique ways. In classrooms, we are able to witness teachers collaborating with students to encourage higher order thinking while also knowing each of their students' needs and adapting lessons to meet each and every one of the kiddos where they are at.
Our Husky teachers model empathy and patience in the most trying of situations. Our teachers strive to help students know how much they care and are willing to do their best to help them grow in whatever way possible and that is felt in every hall, classroom, and office within this campus. To say that we are in a school that is unique is an understatement! Our teachers do this because they believe in the power of one...one campus, one team, one teacher, one student at a time.
Please help us in celebrating our teachers and IAs this May by letting them know how much we appreciate them and what they have done throughout this year for our students. You as parents have been an instrumental part of the team in working with our teachers to be the most dynamic combination in making an impact on your child's academic success. We appreciate you!
Your partners in learning & growing,
Sandy Luna, Principal
Jenn Platt, Associate Principal
Teacher and IA Appreciation Week (May 2 - 6)

Data Validation…AKA Early Registration
All currently enrolled students need to be re-registered and complete the data verification process to ensure that they are placed on a class list for next year. By completing this data validation, you are ensuring your child is on a class list prior to school ending. It also impacts the staffing allocations at Scarborough. We do not want to lose a single teacher on campus, so please ensure you re-register your child today!
You can access registration through your HAC account on https://hac.nisd.net/.
STEPS FOR HAC: If you already have an account…
1) Your LOGIN is the email address to which the message was sent.
2) Your PASSWORD is the same HAC password that you have previously used.
3) After logging in, click on the REGISTRATION tab.
4) Click on Update Enrollment tab
5) Click START
6) The first time you log in you will be asked to certify that you are over 13 years old. You will then enter your student’s birthday to validate the registration account.
7) You will be asked if the student is returning to NISD for the 2022-23 school year. If your child will be returning to ANY NISD school next year, select YES. If your child will NOT be returning to ANY NISD school, select NO and follow the question prompt.
8) Click NEXT.
9) Review your child’s data and update any information needed. Click SUBMIT to complete the registration process for your child.
10) If you have multiple elementary students, click on the CHANGE STUDENT icon on the far right of your student’s name in HAC, select another student and follow the same steps above. Review data and complete the registration process for each student.

FREE Books for Students
Northside ISD librarians are teaming up to distribute free books to elementary and secondary students on Thursday, May 5 from 6 to 8 p.m.
The drive-through event will be held at Paul Taylor Field House and Brennan High School.
Each student will receive a bag of new or gently-used books while supplies last. This is the second year for a drive-thru literacy night, and the fifth year Brennan HS has hosted the event. Last year, more than 5,000 children received books. This year, 5,000 bags will be distributed at each location.
With summer approaching, event organizers want to ensure children have access to reading materials at home. Event sponsors include H-E-B and Half Price Books.

Scarborough Elementary Senior Walk
Scarborough Elementary is hosting a Senior Walk on Wednesday, June 1st. You may have students that had been at Scarborough at some point in their career. We'd love to cheer them on and congratulate them for their accomplishments.
Please share the attached invite with these students and have them register using the QR code or given link if they plan on coming.
Senior Walk Attire:

If they have a college shirt representing where they will be attending, that would be great also.
Parent Requests for Next Year
When do I arrive?
7:00AM is the earliest students should be dropped off on campus. Doors will be unlocked at this time, and students will be able to get breakfast.
Learning begins promptly at 7:45AM. The car line is always long between 7:30 and 7:45. If you are worried about tardies, please arrive earlier between 7:00 and 7:30!
What if I'm late?
REMINDER: Students entering the school between 7:45am to 9am are counted TARDY. Those who come to school after 9am are considered ABSENT for the day per Texas state law.
If a child arrives at 7:45 or after, parents will not be allowed to walk the child into the building as instruction has begun. Staff will ensure children get to the classroom efficiently.
Time to go home!
The school day ends at 3:10PM. Instruction takes place until 3:05 PM. Signing students out early causes them to miss quality instruction. Only sign children out early for health appointments or emergencies please.
Reminder: NO CHANGES TO DISMISSAL OR EARLY OUTS AFTER 2:40pm.
Safety Reminders
- PLEASE HELP US WITH TRAFFIC FLOW! Parents, in order to help traffic flow, we are asking that once our main flow of drop off traffic arrives starting at 7:30am, please avoid switching lanes in the drop off lines after students leave your car. This is causing backup and congestion for our drop off line as well as traffic within our neighborhood community. Consider utilizing the right turning lane and roundabout past the bridge on Stillwater Parkway to help alleviate long waiting periods for left-handed turns towards Silver Pointe.
- DRIVE-IN: We are seeing an upward swing in traffic and near-accidents at arrival and dismissal. We are asking our Husky community to please collaborate with us in ensuring we are following all traffic signs and rules of the road to ensure safety for all. Specifically - there are only TWO lanes that enter into the campus drive: 1) Coming from the north-west, turning from the right lane & 2) coming from the south-east, turning from the left lane. Please DO NOT turn from the outside lanes, crossing over traffic. We understand everyone's time is precious and appreciate your respect and patience with this matter to ensure safety for all! Also, the speed limit on campus is 10mph. That is almost a crawl! Please abide by these signs.
- CROSSWALK: Students must be accompanied by an adult when walking across the crosswalk to the school in the mornings and afternoons. Do not drop him/her off in the parking lot to walk by themselves as these are high traffic areas - safety is our #1 priority for everyone! This causes unsafe conditions for our students as well as traffic concerns within the parking lots.
Thank you for your help in keeping students, staff, and our community reaching higher and higher to meet and exceed our goals. Your support, encouragement and continued partnership make a difference each and every day.
