Early Release Days - What do teachers during early release anyway?
On Wednesdays (most Wednesdays), I am planning to visit classrooms and take some pictures of the wonderful learning that takes place throughout our building. I will not get to all classrooms every week, nor capture the richness of the learning in all its entirety, but it's hopefully a small glimpse into what I get to see everyday.
Our teachers work together in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) every Wednesday. This means that our teachers use this very valuable time to focus their efforts on meeting the needs of all students by focusing on the following:
- Teachers believing that all students can learn.
- Teachers making collective commitments, clarifying what each member will do to work as effectively as possible.
- Teachers using results-oriented goals to mark their progress.
- Teachers working together to clarify exactly what students must learn (local standards & benchmarks), monitor each student's learning on a timely basis (frequent formative and common assessments), provide feedback to the learner in a timely manner, and provide additional support when students struggle or exceed the learning expectations.
