VanderWall & Wedick's Class

Last Week in Greyhound ELA

We finished our How to Survive the Real World Unit with an activity comparing prices for different services and a reflection on what we learned in the unit. Students discussed what they liked and disliked about "adult"-ing and what they need to remember when they are out on their own.

We took out Stems List 11 & 12 Test last week. This week, we will be moving on and adding Stem List 13 to our repertoire. Would you like to study with your student? Find the notes for Stem List 13 HERE.

Student Led Conferences are October 5th and 6th

This is an opportunity for our students to share some of their incredible achievements with you, and we truly hope we can schedule a time that is convenient for your family. If not, please contact a team member to set up an alternate plan. Thank you for everything you do to help your child be successful.

If you were unable to sign up through our Google Form, expect a form sent home this week with your student asking what day and time you will be able to attend. If you cannot attend either night, please contact your student's second block teacher to schedule another time to come in and meet with your student and talk with their teachers.

Starting New Mini Unit

During the next three weeks (until the end of Unit 1: Informational Text), we will be focused on a new mini unit about Gender Stereotypes in Society. We will be looking at topics like gender discrimination, stereotypes in the media, and marketing towards specific genders. We will be looking at all types of media: news articles, poetry, advertisements, magazine covers, and more.

No Red Ink

As a Language Arts department, we are trying a new way of reviewing and learning new grammar. lets students start and move through lessons on their level until they can master the task. Students will have assignments in No Red Ink weekly on different grammar pieces we are working on.

We are currently working on Active vs. Passive Voice and Verb Tense.
