Swansboro Elementary

Happy Sunday Pirate Families!
Thanks for another great week at Swansboro Elementary! This week is National School Counselor Week. We would like to let Ms. Carrie Jackson know just how much we appreciate her. She has such a caring heart and provides so much support for the students and staff of SBES! We hope she enjoys her special week! Congratulations to our January Students of the Month. Click on the link in our newsletter to read more about these fabulous students! Tuesday night there will be an OCS Board of Education meeting. Wednesday, don't forget to have your child log on to Teams for their live session. We would also like to have more students join us for our optional Wednesday afternoon Enrichment live sessions. They start at 1 pm and are brought to us by our amazing E team. You can find the link to join on our school website or in the newsletter below. On Friday, we will have our Dairy Queen Spirit Night. When you order, be sure to mention SBES and a portion of your sale will go back to our school. Our lost and found items are accumulating and we will need to clear of the rack to make room for others. If your child is missing something, please check out our lost and found rack. It will be outside the main doors next week M-W 8:30-2:45. Items that are not claimed during this time will be donated to the HEM. Please help us reduce the number of items in the lost and found by labeling your child's items with first and last name. With 15 weeks left to go in the school year, it is imperative that every student puts forth their best effort all the way to the end. Parents please make sure that your are monitoring your child's progress. All students should be on iReady Reading and Math for at least 45 minutes per week. All students should also be reading nightly and practicing basic math facts to increase math fluency. If you have a student in grades 3-5 they should be pulling up PowerSchool regularly to monitor their grades and make sure that they are keeping up with any missing assignments. I am very proud of our students so far this school year and would like to see them continue to learn and grow!
As always, we ask that if you or anyone in your household have any Covid symptoms, exposure or concerns, please reach out to the school. Each case is unique and will require you to speak with Nurse Sammons or Ms. Highsmith to ensure student safety and adherence to OCS policies. We will be glad to assist you through this process and thank you for your support and understanding.

Valentine's Day protocols:
- Students will be permitted to exchange paper valentines. These valentines MAY NOT CONTAIN ANY FOOD OR CANDY. There are no exceptions to this. Paper valentines my include stickers or like items.
- Students will not be permitted to give treat bags of any type to other students.
- All students will have a brown sandwich bag for their valentines to be placed in. The school will purchase these bags and have them to teachers the week prior, to allow time for students to decorate the bags.
- Bags should be placed on a table or counter and students will go one-at-a-time to put valentines in bags. This will help with social distancing guidelines.
- When they are finished, teacher or teacher assistant should staple the bag closed. The bag should go home in the students' bookbags, to be opened at parents' discretion.
- If parents do not wish for their child to participate, they will need to let their teacher know.
- Due to Covid restrictions, we are not allowing food/craft donations to be brought into the school except through teacher Amazon wish lists.
- Thank you for following these protocols in order to keep our students safe.
- Students are not allowed to take balloons, flowers and large items on the school bus, so it is best to exchange gifts at home verses school.
Reminder about car seat safety:
