School Announcements & Updates

WEAR SNEAKERS TO SCHOOL-National Walking Day

· Take the first step to a healthier life by taking part in the American Heart Association's National Walking Day.

· On Wednesday April 6th, American Heart Association kicks off a month-long celebration to help us all become more active.

· Lace up their sneakers and take 30 minutes out of your day to get up and walk … walk before work, walk with your students or walk after work.

Student Healthroom Visits:

In order to ensure student safety and accountability, all students going to the health room must have a pass. Students will be sent back to the classroom if they arrive without documentation or proof that they were sent by an adult. Additional health room pads have been placed in all mailboxes.

School Based Therapy Update:

We are excited to announce that our School Based Therapy is back to being fully operational. We were working short staffed for a few weeks. All children will now begin receiving their full service that they were getting through Kelly McCall. The only difference is that we have two therapists. We’d like to give a delayed welcome to Michelle Marmo who will provide therapy on Monday and Tuesday. She has been doing a great job meeting our kids needs over the past few weeks despite being severely short staffed. We’d also like to welcome Krista Fulmer to Wickersham who will be providing therapy on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Both Michelle and Krista have district email if you need to communicate with them. If you have further questions please contact Mr. Wertman.

Facilities Concerns-

Please contact the main office via phone or email to communicate any facilities concerns prior to entering a work order. By doing so, we can usually expedite and resolve the issue right away.

PLC UPDATE

Please plan for your second PLC session this week being spent on Discipline Process and flow chart. PBIS Committee member will be facilitating this portion.

District Updates & Announcements

Artistic Opportunity

The SDOL is currently working toward health living and healthy eating. As part of the wellness initiative, various people from the SDOL are providing recipes for healthy eating which will be incorporated into a cookbook. Now, it is time to get students involved in the efforts. We are looking for students to submit artwork with themes that would fit into this cookbook. This could be a still-life of a bowl of fruit or a representation of proper nutrition. Perhaps the art shows people cooking or eating veggies or enjoying a tall, cool glass of ice water. This could be a project completed in an art class, an art club, or a regular classroom tying into health, fitness, and wellness.

Submissions should be sent as digital files via email (such a good quality digital photos of the art) to Michael Slechta,mjslechta@lancaster.k12.pa.us. Please include student(s) name(s), grade, school, and name of teacher submitting the work. The best pieces of art that fit the theme will be incorporated into the cookbook. The successful artists’ parents (or the artists themselves, if 18 or older) will need to complete a parent permission/release prior to the photos of the art being added to the cookbook.

LEF to Host a Screening of Paper Tigers

Published on Mar 18, 2016

Paper Tigers
explores the impact of adverse childhood experiences (ACES) and toxic stress on struggling teens. The film follows a year in the life of Lincoln High Alternative School in Walla Walla, Washington. After radically changing its approach to disciplining students, Lincoln High School saw a dramatic turnaround in everything from the number of fights to test scores to graduation rates. The school has become a promising model of how to break the cycles of poverty, violence and disease that affect families through the practice of trauma-informed educational strategies and is a testament to what the latest research on childhood adversity is proving: that one caring adult can change the trajectory of a young person’s life.

Visit the film’s website and view their trailer atwww.papertigersmovie.com.
