Family Updates
Week of November 8, 2021
Mickle School Families,
* The district will be closed on Thursday (11/4) and Friday (11/5) for NJEA Teacher Convention. We wish all of our students and school families an enjoyable long weekend!
* Thank you for your patience with the Realtime system-wide outage that recently occurred. Realtime is back up and running, and the Parent Portal can be accessed in order to view your child's progress reports.
* The 6th Grade Fall Festival evening event for our 6th grade students has been rescheduled for November 12 from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m.
* Parent-Teacher Conferences are scheduled for November 19 (1:30 - 3:30 p.m.), November 22 (6:00 - 8:00 p.m.), and November 23 (1:30 - 3:30 p.m.). The conference scheduler will become available on Tuesday, November 9. A separate Realtime message regarding conferences will be provided next week.
* As various social media trends (e.g., TikTok "devious licks" challenge) continue to circulate, schools are working to reinforce positive conduct and denounce the negative actions these "challenges" encourage for students (destruction of school property, inappropriate physical contact, etc.). We are fortunate to have wonderful students, but please discuss appropriate school conduct with your child and emphasize the severity associated with the negative and destructive actions that these social media trends are promoting.
* Please view the Mickle Special Area staff newsletter here.
* The Kingsway Education Association will be hosting a Holiday Craft Show this Saturday (11/6) from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. at Kingsway High School. The craft show will include over 170 vendors, and you can view the list of vendors here.
* The 12th annual East Greenwich Turkey Trot will be held on Saturday, November 27, and will offer both in-person and virtual participation options. You can sign-up here. Thank you, Home & School Association, for sponsoring this great event!

November Family Character Dare
What is a CharacterDare?
CharacterDares are prompts and reflective conversations organized around specific character challenges (i.e., dares) that provide students, parents and staff with ideas, opportunities, and accountability to put character in action. Students will get character Dares once a week. Families will also get character dares to try out!

Counselor Corner
Hello and welcome back to the Counselor's Corner! My name is Kristen Lombardo and I am your child’s school counselor. November continues to be filled with lots of activities here at the Samuel Mickle School. In a few short weeks we will be honoring our Veterans. Lessons and activities were developed and will take place to help the students recognize the things they should be grateful for and they can show gratitude. Before we know it, parent/teacher conferences will be held and Thanksgiving will be here.
This month we are continuing with classroom lessons on respecting each other and ourselves. We will discuss conflict resolution skills and problem solving skills. If you are interested in checking out any of my lessons they are posted in my google classroom. All students have access to my google classroom.
I am available if you have any questions or concerns. It is important that we all work together. I can be reached by email at lombardok@eastgreenwich.k12.nj.us or by phone at (856)423-0412 ext. 1051. I look forward to working with you and your child.
KIndly,
Kristen Lombardo
