Staff Shout Out!
I wanted to email you with a shout out for our interventionists here at Windsor. They have been such an incredible support this year. Testing season is brutal and they have provided snacks and drinks to both the teachers and the students. Though Amber is technically my coach, Jessi and Mike have both shared resources with me that have helped me become a better teacher. Classroom teachers get a lot of recognition from students at the end of the year and I just wanted to send along an email highlighting what incredible resources they are! :)
Another Shout Out
And A Few More...
Questions to ask to center BELONGING in our work
- Who are my students? What are their needs, lived experiences, etc?
- What does belonging look like? How does belonging show up in my classroom?
- Whose voices am I centering in the classroom, curriculum, visual representation?
- Whose voices and experiences are missing in the curriculum & classroom culture?
- How do I see my students and what assumptions might be operating as I get to know them as learners?

Resources and Opportunities
DEI Day, Equity Coaches + Summer Book Club
- DEI Day: There will be a drop-in "DEI (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion) Day" at each school over the next couple of weeks. Please stop by if you have any questions, haven't yet been part of conversations about our collective efforts to make WSESU more equitable & inclusive, want to share input, feedback or learn more about what's happening. Schedule as follows (7am-3:15pm):
- Tuesday, May 21 @ Weathersfield
- Wednesday, May 22 @ Windsor
- Wednesday, May 29 @ Hartland
- Thursday, May 30 @ Albert Bridge
- Equity Coaches: WSESU is launching/piloting a team of equity coaches next year to create more support and alignment of DEI within our schools. These positions will be like an instructional coach. We are recruiting 1-2 equity coaches per school. If you would like to learn more please join a DEI Day and/or email traci.price@wsesu.net. Here is a description of the position and a more detailed schedule of proposed meetings.
- Summer Book Club: The purpose of this book club is to explore themes related to DEI broadly defined (including reflective, restorative, collaborative, and trauma-informed practices) and build our individual and collective capacity toward a culture of belonging at WSESU. And, hopefully have a little fun while doing it. Interested? Please fill out this brief poll by June 7th!
