Spooky, Spectacular Science
At Yulee Middle School, 6th-grade students and teachers enjoyed a fun day of spectacular science activities. They discovered how elephant toothpaste works, saw and played with dry ice, and sliced pumpkins using rubber bands! All the activities tied into weather, water cycle, and physical science chemical and physical changes. Spooky Science is Sensational!
All-State Musicians 🎶🎵
Emily Huggins, Victoria Maltagliati and Michael Awad, all clarinetists with the Fernandina Beach High School Symphonic Band, auditioned for the Florida All-State High School Band. Thousands of students across the state competed for the eighty spots between two bands. Emily and Michael were chosen for the 9th & 10th-grade band, and Victoria was chosen for the 11th & 12th-grade band. This is the first time since the early 1990's that FBHS has had a student selected for these premier bands. The musicians will travel to Tampa on January 8th for 2 days of intensive all-day rehearsals and will perform a concert on January 11th. Congratulations!
Discovering the Moon
At Callahan Intermediate School, Mrs. Coxwell and her 4th Grade STEM students are learning about the different phases of the moon!
It looks like they all thought it was out of this world!
Touring Burnt Glassworks
Callahan Middle School's students in Mrs. Thien's 8th-grade class took a field trip to Burnt Glassworks. It was an amazing opportunity for learning chemistry and the history of glassmaking that was rich in vocabulary and hands-on learning!
Owls, Bones, and Pellets
West African Masks
Ms. Silver, Yulee Middle School, had her students involved in an art project on West African Masks.
Students discovered the history and traditions behind the masks before creating their own versions.
Hornets Love Reading
Yulee Elementary School's team really knew how to play their parts for the Magical Night of Reading Parent Night. Students and parents loved seeing characters come to life!
Serving Up Reading...Italian Style
Yulee Elementary School's students had an Italian style book tasting. They were able to peruse the “menu” of books, “taste” a few, and make some recommendations.
These books were then placed in the library for students to check out and enjoy in its entirety.
Giving to Others
Yulee Elementary's PTO Funds were used to donate Publix Thanksgiving Meals to 6 families in need. Mr. Cubbal and Mrs. Loudermilk hand-delivered to each house. Each family was grateful for the gift.
A Bryceville Christmas
Bryceville Elementary Students, Teachers, Parents, and Staff enjoyed their Country Christmas Literacy Night. Dinner was catered by Cousin Willie’s Smokehouse and offered to over 100 people that attended. The musical and Reader’s Theater program was directed by John Carr and performed by our Kindergarten through fifth-grade students. Everyone finished the night with Santa (AKA John Carr) taking pictures with students and his lovely assistant (AKA Melissa Carr) passing out our gifts of books to each student. Students were also able to do AR quizzing and ornament crafting for students.
Annual Door Decorations
Creative Christmas Carols
Students in Mrs. Shafer's Creative Writing classes, at Yulee Middle School, participated in a poster contest with the theme "Rhyme Scheme in Christmas Carols." The winning posters, seen here, were displayed in the office and in the 8th-grade hall. The students had a great time figuring out rhyme scheme and identifying the figurative language in their favorite carols, and made a festive atmosphere with their beautiful posters!
