Colt Corner
Colleyville Middle School
September 3, 2021
Colts,
This week we welcomed all of our Colt families back to the building to participate in the Colt experience in person. We had a great turnout for a full day of events Tuesday including my coffee talk, PTA executive board meeting, general PTA meeting, optional 8th grade PSAT meeting, and curriculum night. Thank you all for your continued engagement with your Colt’s school life. Next week we will begin our athletics competition season with volleyball and football games. We are excited for our student-athletes and coaches to get the chance to show off their hard work from the start of the school year, as well as the band, cheer and dance teams who have been hard at work preparing their game day performances. As Labor Day pays tribute to the contributions and achievements of American workers, I hope each of you enjoy this three-day Labor Day weekend.

SOS Signs of Suicide® Prevention Program Preview
The adolescent years are marked by a roller-coaster ride of emotions—difficulty for youths, their parents, and educators. It is easy to misread depression as normal adolescent turmoil; however, depression (among the most common of mental illnesses) appears to be occurring at a much earlier age. Depression—which is treatable—is the leading risk factor for suicide. To proactively address these issues, GCISD offers depression awareness and suicide prevention training as part of the SOS Signs of Suicide® Prevention Program.
The SOS Signs of Suicide® Prevention Program is designed for all secondary students grades 6-12. The GCISD School Health Advisory Committee has previewed and recommended these programs for all GCISD secondary schools.
A parent preview of the program will be held on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. and at 6:00 p.m. at the GCISD Administration Building – Board Room, 3051 Ira E. Woods, Grapevine, Texas 76051.
At CMS, students will view SOS this Fall, and details on the date will be shared in advance by our counseling department.
For more information, including information about how to opt your student out of the program, please click here for English or Spanish.
Remote Conferencing
GCISD would like to inform families that, beginning on Monday, August 23, remote conferencing will be available for students who are unable to attend school in-person because they are in quarantine as the result of being a close contact or test-positive for COVID-19.
Approved by the Texas Education Agency, remote conferencing is a mechanism by which online instruction can be provided for those who are temporarily away from campus for reasons related to COVID-19. It is important to remember this is not GCISD Online, a temporary remote learning option for elementary students that families were made aware of last week.
Please click here for frequently asked questions regarding remote conferencing. More detailed information, including a complete list of FAQs, is available from the TEA by clicking here.

COVID-19 Protocols and Testing Center
Throughout the summer, GCISD has continued to monitor updated health guidance and recommendations to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. Additionally, the District has monitored positive cases for students and staff that participated in summer programs. This continued monitoring has helped inform the District’s 2021-2022 COVID-19 protocols. More information about the protocols was sent last week, and can be read here.
GCISD COVID-19 Testing Center
The GCISD COVID-19 Testing Center at Mustang Panther Stadium is currently open for symptomatic students or staff.
